Gilroy May Replace Eminger

Update, 1:59 p.m.:
Gross tweets that Tortorella is still not sure who his fifth/sixth defensemen will be Friday night against the Maple Leafs calling it a constant evaluation.

Original Post:
Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports that although it was tough to tell as seven defensemen were rotated through drills but it appears Matt Gilroy might join the lineup Friday in place of Steve Eminger.

Here are the d pairs:

Marc Staal-Michal Rozsival
Michael Del Zotto-Dan Girardi
Mike Sauer-Matt Gilroy

...while I'm more than excited to see this, man do the Rangers have a young defensive corps.

...through two games the Rangers are averaging almost five goals against per and I don't see that changing anytime soon with all the youth on the back end.

...get ready for a lot of high scoring games this season.

Thats unfortunate because MDZ needs to have a partner who can cover his butt big time. A solid stay at home D, and until that comes about he is more a liability on D than his offensive skills can cover up. Eminger needs to go, maybe trade him and EC for a defenseman that can handle the defensive aspect of the position.

Team D as a whole needs to tighten up. And the D-men need to play meaner in front of the net.

Only change with the D lineup in this post is Sauer replaces Redden. Win-win for everyone, I would think.

Rick is right. Let's hope this entire unit wakes up on friday. They really need to open there eyes in front of Hank.

Is anyone else getting tired of all the line juggling? On Saturday I don't think the same offensive pairing went out more than 2x the entire game. The D needs to get better but the offense needs to know where they are too so they can cover back.

Enough already Torts! Do you use a bingo lottery system between periods to determine the lines. Pick some eff'n lines and let them play together.

If Gilroy gets in the lineup and plays well, validates the Dallas rumor that Richards is NYR bound for young D + draft picks ...

Would love to see Richards in the NYR lineup 1st line. With Dubi/AA/Callahan on the 2nd and maybe Steps with Feds and Avery on the third. Those are decent lines, but what about Dru-send Steps down?

think we could get Fedor Tyutin back?

Offense is not the issue right now...D most certainly is...Rick i like your original idea...Eminger and EC and maybe a draft pick for a true Defenseman would really help balance out the team right now

eavanantonio, I was back and forth all week about whether or not to bring that up. I think that right now that move looks like the worst of all, I can forget about the first round busts but that one still stings.

Evantonio...It's funny you mention Tyutin because he crossed my mind too. While I was watching the Islander game I wondered what the D would be like if he were around.

all the goals against is on the whole team including henrik and all the forwards not just the 6 dmen. its a team sport. probably a lot of the goals against because we are a very young team
