The New York Rangers (4-2-1) defeated the New Jersey Devils (2-6-1) by the score of 3-1, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.
...i'm not going to get too over-excited, but man it is fun watching this team right now.
...no one deserved a goal more than Callahan last night. The guy has been busting it all season and finally has something to show for it.
...Rozsival has more shots these last three games than the last three years. Not sure what happened, but lets hope this continues.
...Lundqvist is amazing on a gamely basis, but man does he step it up a notch with Brodeur at the other end of the ice. Rangers might want to trade for Brodeur just so they can sit him in the front row behind the opponent's net every game.
...Dubinsky is really starting to turn into the two-way player we all expected. Anyone want to trade him now?
...i'm always on Del Zotto for his -20 last year, so I have to give him props for his +2 last night which puts him at +4 for the season. Just as shooting the puck has clicked with Rozy it looks like the same has happened with Del Zotto's defense the last three games.
...and Mike Sauer's reward for playing two solid games in a row is.....a seat in the press box. What!?!?!?
...before this three games in four nights started the Rangers were going the wrong way fast. Now they're one of the hottest teams in the league. I hope this isn't how the season is going to go as I can't handle the swings.
...not sure if anyone saw between the second & third period, but reader Pete, who was selected to shoot for a Volkswagen, just missed the car. Great effort. I don't think I would have come close.
...Off the next two games then the Thrashers are in town.

Post reported sauer had some soreness after the bruins game that's why he was a late game scratch
I think Del Zotto has still really struggled with his D thus far. Yes he's a +4, but he's been bailed out with some help around the net (and Hank), so thats a little misleading. He continues to make AT LEAST one terrible defensive play per game that leads to a chance. I worry about him.
Also, not to be a dick, but the final was 3-1. Can't forget about Dubie's full length empty-netter
nothing about Del Zotto's aim? That camera stopped the puck better than brodeur did :)
I really think Callahan should improve his aim too. I see so many of his shots ending right on the goalie... If he could improve his aim a bit he would be a much completer player/firstliner... Until then....
Also refs on Avery again...
Glad Roszi's doing well.
Now if only they could get Frolov rolling...
FINALLY!!!
The team that has showed up the last few games is finally showing some guts and grit. However, it seemed that the Rangers are willing to fall into the other team's game plan for a while. During the beginning of last night's game, it looked to me like they were willing to play a less aggressive style with the Devils, who realize they would get beaten off the ice if the REAL Rangers came out to play. Maybe it was the coaches, or maybe Boogard took it on himself, but when he decided to start mixing it up, the game changed in the Rangers' favor. If the game plan were up to me, I'd send Avery and Prust out looking for a fight early and once you draw the other team into that game, unleash the Boogeyman to settle things once and for all. A couple dirty goals, and you're on your way to a decent season.
Thanks for the headsup on Sauer and the score.
I usually forget about an empty netter about twice a year.
Excellent effort tonight. Dubinsky, Callahan, and Anisimov all looked great. Glad to see home grown players doing well. My concern is Torts ice time distribution. It seems to me the rangers lose gas in the 3rd period. Rolling 3 lines and 2 pairs in an agressive skating system will wear down the players late in games. I don't care how well in shape a player is, they will be slower in the 3rd period which showed since Torts was hired. Renney always rolled with the fourth line and the fourth line never hurt them. This year the fourth line never hurt the rangers. They won 3 in a row and I hope they keep rolling.
MBarber, Torts is know for only rolling three lines.
nothing against Pete J....its gotta be really nerve racking taking those shots. thought it was awesome that they showed him between periods but my question is this:
do they backround check on these to make sure you have zero hockey experience?? again nothing against our man Pete but it was pretty obvious he wasnt very comfortable with a stick in his hands. i mean do they ask you what shot are you and if you say righty they hand you a lefty stick?
again not trying to be a d*ck to Pete J but i am always amazed at how inexperienced all the shooters always are.
with that said hell of an effort Pete, you did come close on the last one
Let's remember that this was the 3rd hard fought game in 4 nights so it's no surprse that theyn looked tired in the 3rd. I even anticipated it as we talked between the 2nd and 3rd. athe most important thing is that even after giving up the goal with 5 minutes left, they didn't panic and held on to win.
The Devils and Ranger both played 3 games in 4 nights. I understand that Torts is known for playing the best players more often but when he missed the playoffs last year and this team shows so much inconsistency, he should consider trying new things.
Not for nothing the Devils looked totally lost. Also, if you watched the NHL Network's recap of the game they broke it down: Kovalchuck came back and didn't do a whole lot, the Devils were bad and Lundqvist had an easy night.
i'd still trade dubinsky in the right deal. he actually looks really good on the pk and in last minute of play. he is obvously playing for next contract. even on the staal breakaway goal sat vs bost he looked like he wanted to push staal out of the way. still of his 4 goals 2 are with an empty net.
