Lundqvist the Antithesis of Over-hyped

Chris Botta at Fanhouse ranks his top seven goaltenders in the NHL and puts Henirk Lundqvist at #4...

4. Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers: Five seasons completed in the NHL, a three-time Vezina finalist. Lundqvist is the rare New York athlete who is the antithesis of over-hyped.

...can't say I disagree with the ranking of Hank. My only criticism of the King is that I'd like to see a little more playoff success. In all four playoff appearances, he's yet to put the team on his back and win a series. If he can do that, he'll be in the top two easily.

while I love Hank, I wish he would work on his stick skills a bit, as his complete inability to handle the puck, in my opinion, really kills the powerplay.

He's a lot like Richter in that respect.

In the playoffs, he save the Rangers against the Capitals, but the team didn't help him, the offense made horribles games and the Rangers lost.

in addition to really appreciating seeing Lundqvist get his due (top 5 cred-not even a question), I love that Marty has finally exited this conversation....at least as far as Fanhouse is concerned.

One gripe i have with the list is that Vokoun should probably be higher. Has played on probably the worst team in the league for years and boasts some of the most impressive save numbers. He has also been the rock on a Czech National Team that has overachieved at recent tourneys. kudos to Vokoun

Agree 100%, Will. Vokoun doesnt seem to get nearly the credit that he deserves.

Agree with the Vokoun analysis as well. With Henrik he is so warn out mentally, that by the time they get to the PO's he has nothing left in the tank. I have yet to see a NYR team step it up a notch during the PO's or when it counted. Much like the seventh game against Wash or last yrs end of season game against the Flygirls.
