Torts on Hot Seat?

Spector at Fox News lists five coaches they may already be on the hot seat after poor starts to the season...

John Tortorella, New York Rangers

Injuries to key players like Marian Gaborik have whacked the Rangers roster hard early in this season, and management’s overpayment of free agents in recent years has hampered their ability to bolster their depth. Tortorella cannot be blamed for those factors but the demanding coach could end up paying the price at some point should the Blueshirts fall behind in the playoff race. Emotional, outspoken coaches like Tortorella tend to have a limited shelf life, especially when the team is losing, and after losing three of their first four games the speculation over how long he’ll stay in his current job has begun.

...unless the wheels completely fall off this thing, Torts is getting the entire season. Having said that, if they're out of the playoffs for the second year in a row, I think they let him go this offseason.

...hopefully the effort they showed last night will carry over. Consistency is a major problem with this team.

I'm Assuming What You See Is What You Get Out Of Dubinsky..No Next Step Up From Last Year?

the effort the rangers put out last nite should be the "LEAST THEY PUT OUT IN ANY GAME". in order to get to the next step they still need to get tougher and put out MORE effort and put the puck IN THE NET. by the way, sauer instead of emminger made a big difference, THAT could have been the major move of the game.

by the way even with 30 plus blocked shots, lets give biron major kudos for his first ranger start. if this continues henrik will get MUCH needed rest.

Not to sure why Dubi should be more than what he is? If it is just production, I can't see why 20-24 goals is a bad watermark. Besides a 20 goal season/player which places him in the top 1/3 of the league, whats wrong with the other attributes. His toughness along the corners. His leadership abilities, his willingness to stick up for his fellow players and cover their back. His overall skill set is a hair above average, he plays all aspects of the game, offense-defense-PK and PP, end of game scenarios. What is a shame is that we don't have enough players that can contribute in all areas like he can.

20-24 goals? try 20 once so far and pt production is 40-45 per season. just how many empty netters do you expect him to get.

leadership yeah right. like the time he missed most of training camp while he selfishly held out the only current ranger to do that. cally and staal are much more deserving of letters than # 17.

Cally and Staal are more deserving- I agree. However it still does not negate the contributions that Dubi brings to the club. All I am saying is what is wrong with producing 20-24 goals? Thats the limit I see with his skill set and it should be consistent. His efforts are consistent. His leadership abilities are there if nothing more than being a team player and having everyones back. As far as holding out for more money-I find no problem with that tactic. Its a natural progression between the agent and GM. Staal did it this year as well. I am sure that each player will be holding out as they approach eligibility status. That is the American way to progress with raises. Its not that I like player anymore that other players, I just don't see the negativities outweighing the positives that he brings.

rick i just disagree on # 17. he held out a good amt of training camp - staal signed before training camp he never held out. dubinskys efforts are not consistent and i see little of the leadership you and some others talk about. nothing wrong with producing 20-24 goals., he hit the low end of that range once so far. i actually think he'll have a decent yr mainly because he'll be motivated by new contract,. if he wasn't hyped as some 1st liner and leadership type i'd be fine with him on team as a 3rd liner

LIJoe - We see the same in the player except for the leadership roll. Yeah I hate when there is hype but the substance lacks credibility, I just think that fans want some type of draftee to finally work out to the good and probably went a little overboard. Definitely not a 1st liner-either a decent 2nd liner or a vg 3rd liner, but not a center. LOL
