The New York Rangers (4-3-1) lost to the Atlanta Thrashers (4-4-1) by the score of 6-4, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.
...tale of two teams tonight. The one that played the first half of the first period and last half of the third and the other that looked lost in between.
...i was impressed with the Rangers ability to comeback. I thought for sure this was going to be the typical boring Ranger game at 5-2, but I give then full marks for fighting their way back. Which as a fan is all I can ask for.
...Biron is a backup for a reason, so I don't expect him to be great every start but he's got to be better than he was tonight.
...not the best game for Staal, who, for someone that is supposed to be the Rangers best defenseman, has been very up and down so far.
...Frolov invisible again.
...the resurrection of Sean Avery continues with another great effort.
...from Torts' post game, sounds like Anisimov's ankle injury may be serious, which the Rangers can ill afford.
...nice to see White step-up when called upon. Thought he gave the team a nice spark with his goal.
...Boogaard is a pylon out there. If there isn't a tough guy on the other team there is just no reason to have him out there. Bring up Byers and have him platoon with the Boogie Man.
...Stepan had a bit of a struggle tonight that ended with the resurgent Boyle taking his place (and score a goal) on the second line.
...i don't normally post about an opposing player but Byfuglien (1g & +1) was a beast tonight. Six shots on goal and another hit the pipe. Rangers defensemen, who are prone to having their shots blocked, should watch tape of this guy.
...off tomorrow then the Hurricanes blow into town. Sorry that was bad.

Too much reaching and hoping, not enough skating and taking the body.
i feel like when i watch the rangers play games like this i am constantly yelling,"WORK GODDAMN IT WORK HARDER!" at the tv.
Agree- got to move those legs, Calli Dubi and AA played consistently with energy all game. Too bad the rest didn't match the energy shift by shift. Good job by White to score. Its always tough to play well when you don't get the minutes to stay sharp. Where is Frolov? Biron- can never make the big save when needed, same ole same ole except the D didn't help either.
frolov = bust(but just for a year) just a bad game overall. interesting to see how the team steps up friday and bounce back from this loss
90% of the Rangers goals are garbage goals and the occasional one timer. Can anyone on the team rip a wrist shot past the goalie or dangle the defense. Maybe just one tic tac toe passing play. It is honestly a little boring to me, does anyone have skills on this team??? I want to see someone do something exciting. Like Little's goal, now that was awesome. St Louis goal tonight was crazy too. I have to agree if Biron played a little better we could have won.
Kevin your boy EC is done. He looks lost out there and has no hustle compared to the rest of the team. Avery has been an assisting machine this season he should play with Gaborik. I knew Staal is not that good. Its embarrassing when people say he is shutdown. He is constantly getting smoked and having pucks bounce right by him. I really am in disbelieve that he makes more than Girardi.
Maybe Staal needs to call Boyle's skating coach as I see his feet moving in slow motion as opposition players blow by him. Or he needs to give the purse back to Malik and Poti and hit someone instead of reaching and poking.
Biron goes down way too early...he leaves the top corners wide open.
Staal has that long stick so instead of moving his feet he just pokes and lunges.
Torts needs to make him use a short stick and that will force him to move his feet.
Torts or the Team captain needs to GET IN FROLOV's face. Good pre-season and now he's sleeping. Someone light a fire under his ass!
But Frolov is fighting for a contract at the end of the season! ha ha ha. But in all seriousness, all goal scorers are streaky and this is probably his down time. He has only played in a handful of games and is on pace for 20G. I have a feeling it will get better as he adjusts to the new environments. Three stress factors on athletes 1) family related tragedies 2) relocation 3) new working environment(personell). Dealing with two of the three stress factors sometimes takes a little adjustment period.
Biron made an awesome glove save early. Biron got hit into the boards and only Emminger went after him.
Boogard blows.
I agree with you about Staal, he was not good. I have been saying it from the beginning, Biron will NOT get the 20 starts he has been pegged to get. Del Zotto was awful last night. What was that blind pass with the empty net?
wow, tne idiots really come out after a loss.
Why did Biron get the start?
agree with mike the most on this one.
i disagree strongly with the anti staal faction led by "the king"
so they can keep henrik at 60-65 games so he is not gassed by the end of the yr
Hahaha I love LI Joe. I have been waiting for you to come comment.
In all seriousness you have to agree with me that Staal is not playing up to par. To many goals I have seen were completely his fault! He must feel embarrassed now for asking so much money. I am so happy Sather did not over pay. Staal has to get quicker and stop reaching. We all know he is not a hitter either. I wonder what happened to the Staal from the end of last season. Of all the player on our team we needed him the most to excel and have a breakout year.
My only concern with Biron and the so called 20 games to be played to keep Henrik fresh. If the 20 games work out that it keep us out of the PO's, what has been gained? It seems like Allaire still has a bunch of work to do.
rick -can't look at just the 20 games. each game biron plays helps henrik in the 62 or so he plays so some of those become wins intead of losses. and other teams use their backups too. no goalie should play more than 65 or so games
