Rangers Put White & Kennedy on Waivers

Update, 2:20 p.m.:
Jesse Spector tweets that Glen Sather said White and Kennedy were put on waivers to give Rangers flexibility if opportunity presents itself to acquire someone expensive. However, he doesn't expect to make an addition, but wants to keep options open.

Sather also expressed no interest in any players who hit the waiver wire today. He wouldn't tell media if he was talking trades.

Update, 1:12 p.m.:
@thenyrangers tweets that Drury was not taking shots on the ice.

Update, 1:00 p.m.:
Gross now tweets that Tortorella says despite being waived Kennedy and White will not be going to Hartford and expects them on the ice tomorrow.

Update, 12:41 p.m.:
Andrew Gross tweets that Chris Drury (broken left index finger) is on the ice in full gear with Marty Biron and assistant Mike Sullivan taking shots.

...and here's your reason for the waivings.

Update, 12:30 p.m.:

Larry Brooks tweets that this move likely means a deal for a defenseman is in the works.

...sort of shocked to see Kennedy waived. Thought he had a solid camp and could help the Rangers at some point. This may mean Drury won't be IR'd or are going to make a move.

...pretty disappointed with White's performance. Thought he would put forth a better effort. Obviously, the Rangers needed to waive him and his salary.

I was wondering what they were gonna do. Was scared it would be Stepan.

Nothing personal, but I'm glad not to see White make the team. We already have a 35 year old coming off of surgery.

Who is available out there for d and what can we offer?

I'm a bit surprised, but not upset, that Kennedy was waived. I was at the first preseason game and his play/style stood out. Oh well.

Getting Souray would be such an early 2000s Sather move.

NHL Live on XM?

Souray is such a malcontent, who needs him?

Gary, not me.

I thought Kennedy was the perfect 12th-13th forward who would be used in matchups when Torts wanted more skill to replace Boogaard certain nights.

This gives the Rangers $3,973,333 in cap space...

Remember guys that Voros was waived last year in the spring and never went anywhere. If no one claims Kennedy, the Rangers still have him and can use him as they wish. They also would then have a 30 day window to send him to Hartford and be able to bring him back without reentry waivers.

not sure what you mean rusty in last sentence. i know about 30 days to send him down. but if he's sent down if recall waivers are applicable for him (not sure it is with his young age and low salary) then he would be subject to recall waivers.

but i agree that likely both pass through waivers and stay up on the team for at least the 1st week. some chance kennedy gets claimed but little chance on white being claimed

voros is the perfect example on someone waived a few times and never being sent down
