Rangers 6, Sabres 3

The New York Rangers (1-0-0) defeated the Buffalo Sabres (1-1-0) by the score of 6-3, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.

...now that's how you start the season. There were times last year when the Rangers didn't score six in a week. And tonight they drop a half dozen on the best goalie (sorry Hank) in the NHL.

...only three goals for Stepan? Send him down to Hartford. Wonder if he actually realizes what he did tonight. Can't wait to hear the ovation for him next Friday.

...nice start for Dubinsky who is going to be counted on this year for secondary scoring.

...wonder if Gaborik knew what was going on tonight. Teammates scoring? What's that?

...big goal for Christensen who is probably still on the bubble.

...seriously, where does Drury fit in this lineup? The only spot I see is fourth line center.

...i killed the Eminger over Gilroy move, but I can't complain about the results. Might as well come back with him on Monday.

...-20 for Del Zotto last year. +3 tonight. Nice flip flop. Plus I loved the Power Rangers song he did with Boyle before the game

...it's amazing what confidence does for a player. Just ask Anisimov.

...you think Avery enjoys playing on a line with Stepan? He look rejuvenated out there.

...we really saw Torts' pressure game plan work to perfection tonight. Big time forecheck that led to lots of turnovers.

...oh yeah Lundqvist just being Lundqvist, although he'd probably like the first two goals back.

...off tomorrow then on Long Island for an afternoon delight on Columbus Day.

Anonymous, Stepan scores a hat trick in his debut and that's your comment c'mon man.

Murray, before the game MSG had tape of Del Zotto and Boyle singing and dancing the Power Rangers theme song.

Pretty funny stuff.

What Power Ranger song?

During the pregame show, they had Boyle and DZ sing the power rangers theme song. Really funny little clip.
Amazing game. I hate islanders fans, but sabres fans are right up there with me. I guess that's what I get for being from upstate.

How about throwing Drury on the wing of the 4th line and sitting either Prust or Boogey (depending on how they play.) Or, I guess playing Dru in the pivot and moving Boyle to the right would work too. But either way, he stays on the bottom line. AA and Step were just too good, and Dru couldn't handle being on the top line.

Amazing game. Great start. Loved all the lines. You can really see the system work tonight, and that we have more talent to do it with than last year. I think Derik will move up to the first line at some point, and I agree with Kevin, Christiensen is on the bubble.

I don't know why all u keep hating on christiansen I know he's not the ideal number 1center but he works good with gabby and he scored tonight give him a break unless there's a trade he's our top line center

drury temp lost a spot due to broken finger. that will be far from the last injury on this team. figure his ist 3 games he starts on 4th line remember he missed exh games entirely as well as most of camp.

so all the mock lines last yr never factored in injuries to avery drury dubisnky and prospal among others

i also don't get the hate on christensen. he matched dubisnky in goals with a goalie in net and still people just hate on the guy

Stepan that was a debut for the ages. Love it, hope he can keep the momentum rolling throughout the season.

Great work!

amazing start to the season. Loved Step from the start but never could have imagined that type of game.
tired of hearing this crap about Drury (not a first liner) guy is by far best face-off man on the team hands down. we forget he was top line when with buffalo and how did that work out for us...3 seconds left in the game and oh yeah our playoff season that year is over.
captain clutch can only be clutch if he is given those opportunities again. something torts is finally comfortable giving him (at least that is what he said in off season)
i see dru coming back as first line center or Step goes between Gabby and Fro and Dru is between Aves and Fed. Christiensen is a good player but unless he can keep his confidence in check a whole season he wont be a top contender. you have to try to be bad not to look good when playing with Gabby and Fro.

Step is a beast!!!! You can see his ability to be in the right spot to score. He has great offensive awareness. A lot of you guys on here are just average fans that never even played the game. That is why you can not see that Christensen sucks and just because he had a goal he deserves the top spot. In one shift he tried skating up the middle into the offensive zone and lost the puck. Then in the same shift he is skating with the puck and instead of making a quick pass through the neutral zone he dumps it right before the red line and its an icing. Yes he has good hands but he has no puck protection and he never passes the puck quick enough. Gabby gave him the best pass of the night, it was so quick Gabby fooled everyone. I could have put that in if I were EC. I never see EC make passes like that to Gabby. The 1st line didn't impress me at all.

I've played hockey my whole life I under stand the game and just because be made a few mistakes on opining night doesn't mean anything gabby also gave the puck away a few times by trying to do to much

Get Eminger away from this team immediately. Great all-around game by the Rangers, but 2 bad penalties and awful in his own zone, Eminger should be in the press box, or even better Hartford. I would have rather had Voros out there last night (yes, playing the point). But more positively, this team looked good last night!!

What a great game. I was there in section 319 as the only Ranger fan. Stepan looked great. Love his awareness. Eminger was horrible. Two penalties and there were two more he could have been called have probably been nabbed for. And is there anywhere to find this power ranger duet? haha

all comments seem on pt. except cut Christensen a break. he was solid.. puck just wasnt bouncing the right way for the top line. an honestly, i'd rather see the 2,3 lines score as they did than have it be top heavy. that is a new thing for the NYR of 200X. oh, and btw, he had a goal.

LI Joe said...

the king - cut with the you guys don't know hickey. i';ve followed this game probably a lot longer than you. and i reiterate the hate on ec is unjustified. itsa cap league and he makes less than 1 million. sorry we can't sign anyone and everyone anymore to make this an all star team.

so try rooting for the guy.

Amen, LI Joe. All great points.

I don't care if your 90 years old and you have been following hockey since you were born. Following is different than playing and I mean playing on an actual competitive ice hockey team. Roller hockey and pick up games, house league ect... that doesn't count. I am not trying to be the asshole that thinks he knows everything but I do know EC is not a 1st line center and if you think he is you just proved you don't know anything. I pointed out some mistakes on a shift that he made. But honestly its almost every other shift. Gaborik is the most dangerous on the rush moving through the neutral zone. When he comes flying in the offensive zone with the puck he is very dangerous with that quick, accurate shot. EC hardly ever makes that pass and as a center its very important to make that breakout pass to the wing. You can be a cheerleader but Im not. Cheerleaders root for everyone even if they are bad.

ec is not that bad. sure he isnt the top line center we are looking for, but he can ocasionaly put the puck in the net, has a so-so pass, and can handle a puck decently. If he gets confidence in his game, all of the sudden his production skyrockets with gabby and afro on each side. And at Theking, no matter how much you, me, or anybody else on the blog knows about hockey and the rangers, nobody knows better than the guy making the lines, and ec wouldnt be there if torts didnt see something in him he doesnt see somewhere else.

Kevin DeLury said...

I love watching you guys argue when you're virtually saying the same thing. No one is saying that EC is a legit first line center, but he does work well with Gabby hence him being on a line with them.

The current lines aren't going anywhere right now, so until Torts starts tinkering or they bring in a stud center get used to EC as the Rangers 1st line center.

Kevin

I wouldn't call it arguing, I like the word debating much better. Just to let everyone know I like to debate and put my opinion out there. So please do not get offended and feel free to debate back but in a civilized manner. It is all in good fun. Cheers guys.

How about giving Drury a shot on the first line? He will help out defensively and the guy has good vision.

I'm always a little skeptical of people who have to advertise there experience to justify there positions. I used to play for the Bruins but I don't think that makes my opinions more valid than the next guys.
