Islanders Release Ortmeyer

Chris Botta at NYI Point Blank reports that the Islanders have released F Jed Ortmeyer. Ortmeyer was in camp on a tryout basis.

...bitter sweet here, glad to see that he won't be in an Islanders uniform, but I'd like to see him back in the NHL. Let's wish him luck catching on with a team.

Makes sense, surprisingly.

eminger will be 7th man. they would not waste the development of the other 2 - still might be a move via waiver pick up or trade

ortmeyer just had bad luck with his health. likeable guy although talent was limited and was certainly not captain material as some preached. still hope for his sake and the sake of those who really like him he catches on elsewhere
