Newyorkrangers.com reports that defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko have been assigned to Hartford (AHL).
In addition, forwards Dale Weise and Mats Zuccarello, who were recalled from Hartford yesterday, have been reassigned to the Wolf Pack.
That means, in all likelyhood, that Mike Sauer is #6 and Steve Eminger is #7.
...congrats to Sauer, as he definitely outplayed both Valentenko and McDonagh. Wonder if the fact that Sauer had no options left and had clear waivers before reporting to Hartford had anything to do with the decision.
...while I'm not an Eminger fan, it makes sense to keep him as #7 so that both Valentenko and McDonagh can get valuable minutes in Hartford.
As expected, no forward cuts with injuries to Chris Drury and Vinny Prospal.
...sorry for getting this to you guys late. It's Sunday, and I watch football on Sundays.

Congrats to Sauer, a guy who has been on the cusp for 2 or 3 years, but 4 right handed defensemenn? I also really wanted to see McDonagh on the team, but let him get some work in.
Ahhhh come on Kevin, you know that SATURDAY is the real football day!
We just need to be patient. The era of Staal/Girardi/MDZ/Valentanko/Mcdonagh/Mcilrath/Pashnin is on the way.
what is football?
once Prospal and Drury return (amusing they both miss the opener) who is cut from the forward group? More importantly, who will sit when Eminger plays?
eminger will play for the injured guy. rozy maybe since he's got groin issue. maybe occassionally for gilroy sauer.
doubt they keep all 7 on team all yr as active. so whether trade or waiver pickup or injury and call up from hartford something will happen prob sooner rather than later.
i think prospal is out for at least 1 month and very likely another injury happens before that
meant injury to someone else but it could be him as well
Well kevin, turns out I was correct, mostly. Only One rookie dman remains up. The surprise, that it's Sauer and not my man McDonagh. Certainly wouldn't rush to say Sauer outplayed McD also. They were both solid. I think Sauers age and contract terms were deciding factors.
and william its oct 4th and a lot of changes will come some sooner and some later. no way they were going to have a young guy as 7th dman so emenger is better in that spot than a rookie. can't develop much from the press box
Joe obviously that is the case. c'mon, who you think you're talking to here? some 15 yr old punk. jk...but yeah, I was just making the simple pt that, OUT OF CAMP, only one rookie D would be in the starting lineup. Kevin posited that it was possible all three could be up after final cuts if Rozy's injury proves serious and Eminger is cut ---which he should be. I expect to see a trade for an experienced stay at home guy for the 7th slot
I dont know. I think I would have kept one of them (Valetenko or Mcd) just for the toughness factor.
Seems like we have alot of skilled D-men again and we need some more grit back there, imo.
