Gilroy Odd Man Out? (Updated)

Update, 2:46 p.m.:
@thenyrangers tweets this quote from Tortorella on why Gilroy is sitting tonight...

"We just felt as coaching staff Sauer had better camp (than Gilroy)...certainly not a negative on Gilly...it's one game."

...hey Torts, no one is complaining that Sauer is in there over Gilroy it's your boy Eminger we're confused about.

...now I really hate the Voros trade.

Update: 11:59 a.m.:
@thenyrangers confirms that Gilroy will be a healthy scratch tonight.

...wow, that really did come out of left field.

...what is Torts' infatuation with Eminger? Nice to see Sauer back in, but Gilroy does not deserve to be sitting in the press box.

Jesse Spector tweets that Chris Drury was on the ice for the morning skate.

Can't wait to hear some insight on this. I wonder if it's a decision to light a fire under Gilroy as he still needs to step it up. He didn't have a great camp even though he arrived in great physical shape while adding an additional ten pounds of muscle. A lot is expected of this guy and he probably need to be a little tougher on d and in winning the 6 spot.
Even though Eminger didn't impress me in the pre-season, I have to assume that given his pro experience the coaching staff feels they communicate well with him that he understands his role perhaps better than Gilroy, Sauer, McD, and Valentenko.
The last two or three defensive spots seem to remain somewhat undetermined while the forward lines will look different when Drury comes back and when and IF Prospal comes back.

so goes the "youth" movement. Redden will be back before we know it.

This makes no sense, but perhaps he is trying to get Eminger in now before he sits for stretches of the season? This is why he doesn't make sense for the team, no one on the D-corps really should sit, especially the young guys. Unless Rozsival is demoted to 6th D-man and sits more regularly, which I doubt happens.

The youth are in the lineup. Sitting Gilroy doesn't necessarily equal taking out youth, there's only one guy older than him and that's Rozsival who is a more solid defenseman than Gilroy. (Girardi is a couple months older and is also more solid than Gilroy).

Looks like a youth movement to me:

Del Zotto, age 20
Girardi, age 26
Staal, age 23
Rozsival, age 32
Eminger, age 26
Sauer, age 23
(Gilroy, age 26)

Not to worry, fellas.

bottom line is gilroy was tremendous in college, but his game hasnt translated into the nhl as far as a role is concerned hes like half forward half d-man... that being said eminger is awful and is just being given aan extra look

dont get it, but I didnt get the last couple of cuts either. We'll see.

While I'm more than upset with the move I don't think it means the Rangers youth movement has been halted. Still plenty of young talent on the team. Plus as Torts says it's only one game and it's not like Gilroy is the nexy Brian Leetch.

Emminger is being set up by Tort's. He knows that why he has been with 6 Teams or is it 4 in the last 4 years. Anyway he will be waived.

Roszival part of the youth movement?????

One of the most ridiculous things I have ever ever ever heard!!!!

All guys mentioned played in NHL Last year. How is that a youth movement????

the youth fanatics are delusional - look at those ages excluding rozy. 20 23 or whatever. eminger is not even 1 yr older than gilroy. some peoplea re just not happy no matter what. this is the youngest opening day lineup i can ever remember. 3 guys actually playing 30 or over (not counting biron) the oldest of the 3 is 32. yes we should just call this team rip van winkle.

This is nuts why would you play an older less agile dman against a team that is small and fast!!! I get the size differential but you need some speed on the back end as well and gilroy is a great skater. The move just irks me!

I don't see Eminger lasting a yr with the NYR's. I say he is gone before the all star break. Sauer will take the 6th spot, Gilroy will get paired with Rozi.

Let it play out...if emminger sucks he'll be out before you know it...it's a long season...

Tort's is a mind blowing coach. We will perform the "Del-Fonics" Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time! with the media and Emminger. I bet that the team knows that Emminger will not be here long and are not sweating it. This guy will be exposed and reason why it has taken 6 teams to realize this guy is garbage.
