Torts, Players Talk Loss to Leafs

Rick Carpiniello at the Rangers Report has these quotes from John Tortorella...

“You take a point. Obviously we’re not happy about the first couple of periods. I don’t think we should be happy about the lack of discipline at certain times. You can only get away from killing penalties against a pretty good power-play unit. You crawl back into it … I guess I’m just a little frustrated with that last one, where we have a pretty good goalie in a shootout, and I’m just a little frustrated with the last penalty. But you take the point.”

On the Staal penalty in OT.

“It’s a penalty. It’s a penalty.”

On Boyle seizing an opportunity.

“Yeah, he did. He brought a physical presence. Its’ something we’re asking him to do more consistently. He’s done it through camp. We’re always talking to him about how that’s how he’ll be an effective player. He was pretty effective in that third period, him and Pruster, Sean, they have us some life and we grabbed a point. But he’s had a good camp. He hasn’t had too many down times and he was pretty effective.”

On Avery’s second whack at Komisarek.

“I thought Sean gave us some effective minutes. But that there, that’s where we’re going to continue to work with him, and just not cross over there. He is a smart enough player to know he can do it another way, just so we could keep him on the iee, because he was a pretty effective player there.”

On whether losing Drury will change how Stepan is used.

“Yeah, and I thought Step had some jitters tonight. He struggled a bit there. I think he’s going to be able to handle it. I don’t even know who we’re bringing up yet. I just don’t know how it’s all going to shake out as far as who we have here. But we have to be careful there with Step, as far as giving him too much or too little. We’ve got to figure that out.”

Oh pipe down torts! Boyle was your best player on the ice, admit it, even though its a condemnation of your team.

And why does it take a two-handed chop to the ankle on an opposing player to get Avery involved?
