Torts: Kennedy Has to Play

Jesse Spector at the Blueshirts Blog has this quote from John Tortorella on why Tim Kennedy was assigned to Hartford...

"He’s a kid that has to play,” Tortorella said. “So, it was either him or White. I think he had a good camp. It tailed a little bit, but it’s not going to help him sitting around here. When Dru comes off, we had to do something there, and that’s the decision we came up with. We’ll see where it goes after that. I had a couple of great conversations with him. He understands, and he’s a great kid. We’ll see where we go as we move on here.”

Tortorella also acknowledged that there’s a good chance he won’t get to coach Kennedy again as he would likely get claimed on re-entry waivers.

...i think Torts could have found plenty of time for Kennedy as it doesn't look like he has too much confidence in Boogaard right now.

...Kennedy is also a much better fit on the fourth line than White.

Spector also reports on Chris Drury and Matt Gilroy's return to the lineup.

I can see the confidence factor as a problem for Torts. Torts prefers a player be a hockey player first and foremost and a goon approach carry's little weight.
However it probably came from Slats to get this guy. And it's up in the coach to utilize Boogy and place him in a light that would benefit the team.
