So Who Won the Heavy Weight Battle?

...after watching this again it was definitely a solid fight, that, to me, ended in a tie. As I said last night, the fact that Orr threw Boogaard down at the end means nothing as far as winning the fight.

...i also don't think Boogaard should get killed for not winning. Orr is a tough guy and Boogaard landed some nice shots.

...what are your thoughts?

I agree with it being a draw. At hockeyfights.com 55% of the votes said Boogaard won and only 21% called it a draw.

Draw with a slight edge to Orr due to the takedown.

No question about it, we won. Great to see a enforcer who actually enforces. Can only bode well when we've got a top heavyweight AND a top middleweight on our team, especially after being killed about our toughness the last few seasons

Not sure how you call that a draw? I saw Orr's head snap back more than afew times and it looks like the only one Orr landed was right at the start. The take down was nothing, it was just Orr following behind Boogaard's miss. I believe Boogaard called him a coward at the end...nice touch!

Boogaard won... the only shot orr got in was the first punch before Boogaard had both gloves off. The take down was nothing... a desperate act by orr not to get hit again.

Boogard and Orr are 2 genuine heavyweights and Boogey did his job, landing several solid shots right on Orr.s face. Lest we forget about Orr's prowess, I was there for his one shot Ko of a Flyer 4 years ago.

The fight was a draw and since Orr makes 3/4 of a million per year less it was a win for Orr, or should I say a win for Toronto. Plus, Orr had 2 minutes more ice time. Another win for Toronto.

Throwing someone down when they are on ice skates means nothing except that aorr didnt want to go anymore. This Isn't UFC, no points for a take down. If any of us were unfortunate to fight Boogard the safest thing we could do was pull him down so he stopped beating the crap out of us.

I love Orr, always will. But Boogaard won. Orr got the first shot in, but once Boogie dropped his gloves he landed haymaker after haymaker. Orr took him down because he didn't want to take any more shots from Boogs. This first round goes to Boogaard.

I too think Boogeyman won. I was actually almost scared after that fight of how big Boogaard really is. I know if i was Orr i would be dead after 3 of those punches.

Orr looked hurt, look at Boogs face when they get pulled apart, he just looked f'in mean & far from done!

Hockey is about momentum, this game & that fight could set the tone!

I'm glad he's on the team. I like what he brings to the game. I like the fact that he can land a solid check to make guys think twice about racing into the corners. We need that intimidation factor. That being said, I'm glad we finally got the Orr vs. Boog nonsense out of the way. I'm a fan of hockey, not boxing.

Flame away.

too much is being made of this. derek was brought here to protect the smaller guys from being intimidated and banged, orr didn't do either that i could see. fighting in the game should be the result of a dirty play or just plain bullying not just to see who's the TOUGH GUY !! what was he enforcing ??? i agree with -DO

In my opinion this wasn't even close. Boogaard beat him pretty good. Orr didn't even look like he belonged. The takedown means less than nothing as it was the only way for Orr to stop getting hit.

Upstate tom-
The fight was in response to Armstrong injuring Gaborik last game.
The fight happened so:
A) no one would think they can hurt our guys and get off scot free.
B) we got the monkey off our back and got to play our style the rest of the game instead of worrying about getting Armstrong for hurting one of our stars.

The fight was basically a draw, both men threw good hits, Boogaard probably hit harder and slightly more often, and takedowns are overrated. Also, it's hard to blame Boogaard for anything here: he did his job.

Boogaard won but no one went after Armstrong so in the end the Rangers end up with NO RESPECT!

Its the heat of the moment that retribution should reign, but after sleeping on it for a couple of nights the emotion wears off ... the game needs to be played first and foremost. If the opportunity presents itself to lay a good hit on Armstrong - fine. Other than that, it is just as good to win and do the job physically, mentally and convincingly(although the score might appear to say it was closer than what it was)

BTW Boogy won despite a takedown that is overrated in substance.

Boogard had more punches. He won on points.

its a draw. Boogaard was dominating, you could see Orr taking a pound. Orr got one good shot while Boo was off balance and wrapped around him.
