The New York Rangers (4-2-0) lost to the Ottawa Senators (3-5-0) by the score of 8-5, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.
...love the scoring, but man you've got to be a little worried about the defense. It's been spotty at times this preseason. Which has a lot to do with the youth on the back end. You know who the Rangers could use? A veteran defenseman, like a Wade Redden. I kid, I kid.
...torts can't be happy with the -4 from Stepan tonight, but that goal makes it easy to forget. +/- is an over-rated stat anyway. Redden was a + player last year and I don't think anyone would say he had a good year. Have I mentioned Redden in my first two thoughts? Wow!!!
...i was kidding last night when I said White needed a hat trick to get himself back on the radar and the guy almost comes through.
...unfortunately, Biron was a better playmaker tonight than a goal stopper.
...Anisimov continues to quietly impress this preseason. Really excited for a breakout year for him.
...i'm surprised that Dubinsky has been held out of every preseason game so far. He hasn't? Are you sure?
...gutless spear by Boogaard. If you want to send a message not to hit your top players drop the gloves like a man. Isn't that why Sather brought this guy in?
...is it me or has Eminger been on the ice for every goal against these last two games? I don't even want this guy as the seventh defenseman.
...i still think that Sauer and Valentenko have outplayed McDonagh. Although Valentenko's two penalties tonight are concerning.
...Fedotenko ends the preseason with 1g, 6a. Should be enough to get him on the roster. Especially with injuries. Don't count Kennedy out either as he had another strong effort tonight.
...nice to see MZA chip in with a goal. Who knows maybe he can contribute this year.
...cuts loom tomorrow. With the Prospal, Drury and Rozsival injuries only expect two. My picks are Eminger and White.

I personally liked what boogard did I keen it was a cheap shot but it got the message across
Why not just pummel him? No need to spear. Now he might be suspended: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Video-Cammalleri-s-slash-Boogaard-s-spear-coul?urn=nhl-274104
wow way to end the preseason. this better be just getting some crap out of their system. the defense better tighten up.
Valentenko's second penalty was a good one as it broke up a two-on-one that, with Biron in net, was as good as a goal against. I'm really liking this kid - a gritty Ranger defenseman, who'da thunk it?
Boogaard should be stripped of his Ranger jersey. Gutless garbage.
Anybody else notice Boyle wearing the "A" last night? I guess because prospal is out but I'm surprised it was Boyle. Good for him he has really stepped up this preseason
Now you say that +/- is an overated stat? For the past few months you have been killing Del Zotto about his -20 last year. You got into it with a couple of your loyal readers about this. Please don't "Obama" this site by flip flopping on your opinion.
Boogaard tried to fight the Sens. No one would fight him. THAT'S gutless. Id rather him get a suspension for hitting someone in the cup than absolutely pummeling someone who decides not to drop the gloves. That kind of stuff ends careers.
Agreed that the Boogard spear was not the way to send a message. If you are 6' 7" and 265 lbs man up and run the guy, then challenge him to drop the gloves. There's no place in the game for that kind of cheap crap. Just when I was starting to like the guy.
Anonymous, don't you know that +/- is only over-rated when I need it to be. Nice catch.
Agree with Scotty, Valentenko had two penalties, but they came from playing hard. It is nice to have some of that on the D. I hope he sticks.
Kevin, all good response.
you know I love you.
Man I wish you were correct. Emminger is a pylon. What is the infatuation that Tortorella has with this guy? White is slow. The saying goes "if you are slow you blow..if you are fast you pass.
andrew - boyle wore the A since the others who would wear it or most likely to wear it were sitting
drury cally prospal
gabby staal girardi
dubinsky is not nearly as high on the leadership ladder as he thinks or some of our fanbase thinks.
Anonymous,
please don't "politicize" this site with your sarcasm.
I just watched that spear & didn't think it was all that bad. I saw Gretzky do that to one of the Flyers in the Playoffs (98?) after he took a slash on the wrist.
Seriosuly, you guys are jumping on Boogaard for THAT. That type of play happens 30 times a game, it just so happens that his blade either caught him in a spot that was unprotected, or Neil has been taking acting lessons from Robert Redford. The gutless part is that I didn't see any of the Sens go after Boogaard to stand up for their teammate. The fact that Boogaard has not yet fought is pretty telling from the deterrent side of things.
chef dave - if it was you on the receiving end maybe have a different take on things
