Gaborik Could Be Skating By End of the Week (Updated)

Updated, 1:16 p.m.:
Andrew Gross tweets that Chris Drury is still a long ways off.

Original Post:

Gaborik said he hopes to be skating by end of week or early next week; also said he is very happy with how well team has been playingless than a minute ago via TweetDeck

...with the way the team is playing let's hope he takes a long to time to return. I kid, I kid. This is obviously great news.

Steve Zipay at Newsday had more on Gaborik's recovery in Sunday's paper.

We need him back, key to our long term success. Drury and Prospal are needed as well, but not as significantly, especially since the return of Prospal might mean the end of Fedotenko.

Actually, you do have a point there. The absence of Gaborik has forced everyone to step up in order to get the Ws. I don't think Gabby should rush back. The team is playing well, and they need to get into the habit of playing this gritty style. Let Gaborik heal fully to prevent further injury and put him back in once the team has this style etched into their skulls.

Of course the extra threat will be great. :)

Ryan is right. We're play as a cohesive unit right now. It's perfectly reasonable to question what will happen to the cohesiveness when the three return.

Ryan, I agree with you. Our team is a grinding team made up 2nd and 3rd liners. We are NOT a finesse team. We have never been built like that. We have two finesse players Gaborick and Frolov. Hard to change their game. Hard to incorporate the crunching style. Need to find a way.

I think saying Frolov is a finesse player is a bit of a stretch. Everyone had been incorrectly comparing him to Zherdev (who is a finesse player). Frolov works in the trenches, plays puck possession with a calculated style — most of his goals are from that (predictable) wraparound and garbage goals.

That said, no rush for Gaborik to return so at least this team knows it has to give 100% every game, or at least get in shape mentally and physically to do so.

Jack, I would put Frolov as a finesse before trench player although I do agree he is not a complete finesse player. I really wanted to stress the lack of finesse team we are.
Zherdev is just a complete waste of TALENT. Lots of TALENT! Such a shame.

who would have guessed they'd have done this well with no Gabby, Prospal, Drury, and an invisible Frolov

the team just needs to play the same when gabby returns. Gabby-stepan-afro can be the top line and finesse line, and the other three (two in torts case) can grind and score the garbage goals. prospal plays his heart out game in and game out, so he sould probably help if the team keeps playing this style.

It seems like for the first time in a long while we have 2 lines with great chemistry that I don't want to see broken up. I'm not so sure Gabby on the third line with Fro & EC would be a bad thing right now.

any line with gabby will be the 1st line not 3rd. he should not rush back as the injury won't heal properly if he does. but not because of fear of chemistry issues. i just don't beleive in players playing injured especially at this pt in season
