Christensen Puts Too Much Pressure on Himself

Larry Brooks at the New York Post has some in-depth quotes from Erik Christensen on why he is so inconsistent...

"My whole life I've heard about how much talent I have, and so I've always tried to live up to that, and if I can't, then I get frustrated," Christensen, who once had a 108-point season in the WHL, told The Post following Friday morning's optional skate in preparation for a match at the Garden against Carolina.

"I go into every game wanting to score five points and if things don't go my way, I get ticked off and almost start working against myself. I have such high expectations of myself, that I make the mistake of not staying positive.

"I put added pressure on myself and my play drops."

...wow, those are some pretty honest quotes by Christensen. Don't see that too often from athletes. Also, don't like hearing one of our players can't take the heat.

Brooks also reports that Grachev will replace Derek Boogaard in the lineup tonight.

What kinda hockey player not named wayne, mario, alex or sid goes into a game expecting to have 5 points? thats just retarded, maybe he should lower the expectations of himself and try to score A point

just a thought

Lower expectations, and maybe Torts can figure out a way to make him not such a headcase like he's been trying to do with Dubinsky.

I like EC, he is deffinetly a player that would benifit from a sports psychologist.

EC would benefit from a helping of Midol

So if he realizes the mistakes in his mental preparations, then there should be that attitude to just go out there and have some fun and to hell with the outcome.

Chris that made me LOL.

I started the season thinking EC was not the option for 1st line center. Now I want him in Hartford.

Anyone can say something. The guy is softer than butter. All the skills in the world don't mean shit if you have no heart

Rangers fans and Christensen are both victims of high standards: Rangers fans for expecting so much from a guy who shouldn't be centering a first line and Christensen for buying into those expectations. Christensen brings more to the team than people realize and it would be a shame to see him get ridden out of New York without at least being given more time to prove himself. If he can learn to play within his own abilities, I think he can be a contributor on this team for years to come.

just work EC. working your hardest when you are out there is the only way you can be better or do anything. he needs to grow up and play.

There's a reason why he's been past around the league like a hot potato. Plan and simple, he's inconsistent as hell and not as good as he obviously thinks he is 99% of the time

still think he has too much of the fans wrath on him. he's not a 1st liner and his pay is commenserate with that. maybe if he worked on his empty net shot like someone else he'd have a couple of more goals and less complaints by the "faithful"

and nobody in hartford is playing like they should be promoted. maybe when a couple of guys return from injury ec will see some pine time - but asking for him to go to hartford is just ridiculous

Is it really that ridiculous that EC goes to Hartford? Let's see how ridiculous it is once Drury/Prospal & Gabby return if his play hasn't seriously picked up. Right now he & White are the weakest links on the team up front IMO (we already know Boogaard isn't being demoted).

The way I see it, if EC isn't in the top 6 then he shouldn't be in the lineup. While he's not a #1 line center, he's certainly not a physical grinder and that's what I want to see in the bottom six. Not another perimeter player that gets an assist on a nice pass every 4-5 games. When he's not providing offense (which is quite often b/c of how inconsistent he is) he isn't bringing anything else to the table. Absolutely nothing

i disagree about ec - he;s better than you think., and yes he would sit some games IF everyone was healthy. but how long would everybody be healthy for 3 games before the next injury. so no to hartford as nobody in hartford is playing well enough to be brought up. sit a game or 2 probably but not hartford

re the injured guys 2 of the 3 are not due back to december or maybe even january in case of prospal
