Christensen Has Hamstring/Groin Injury (Updated)

Update, 2:24 p.m.:
Steve Zipay tweets that he is being told Christensen is day-to-day and that his leg tweak is nothing serious.

Original Post:
Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that Erik Christensen suffered a hamstring and groin injury during the Islanders game and that Chris Drury may take his place during the home opener on Friday night.

Brooks said this on where Drury would fit into the lineup...

"If Drury does replace Christensen in Friday’s lineup, Tortorella presumably would choose between leaving Stepan up and playing Drury between Sean Avery and Ruslan Fedotenko, or reuniting the Stepan-Avery-Fedotenko trio and sliding Drury between Gaborik and Frolov."

...i'd hate to brake up the Avery-Stepan-Fedotenko line, but not sure how well Drury would fit on that top line. Plus Stepan seemed to have some chemistry with Gabby and AFro during the preseason.

Put Drury on top line...you know you have chemistry with the Fed-Ave-Step line so leave it be for now...

Drury used to be known for his points production — put dude on the first line and let's see what he can do instead of being the "defensive forward" yada yada yada. Here's his chance.

I would like to see what drury can do on top line with gabs & frolov. I didn't work last year but that may have been due to the other lines not converting either? Right now second and third line have the highest conversion rate. That might lower the pressury on Drury on first line.

I agree. Stepan will get his chance at the first line at some point during the season. I think it's time for Drury to have his chance at being a point producer again. And what could it hurt? Torts has never had a problem juggling lines during a game. If it all crashes and burns then he can just switch them up.

Im with everyone else. The 2nd and 3rd lines are working. Let Drury be the pivot on the 1st line. Who knows, maybe itll spark some points outta him.

about time all of you start believing in Dru again.
give him a shot and let his play speak for himself...the guy doesn't know how lose.
every time he has every been given a challenge he rises to it starting with the little league world series.
he hasn't been able to perform to his ability thus far because torts has never had anyone on the same page. now it will be cut and dry

This is great. I'm glad everybody's on board with at least giving Drury a shot on the top line. I'm rootin for the guy.

This is a golden opportunity for the captain to step up. Even if he will never earn that contract with points, this is a chance to remind everyone that as captain he will do whatever the team needs him to do.
