Staal Struggling in Skating Drills

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports that Marc Staal has been having some difficulties during the conditioning drills the first two days of training camp...

“I feel all right, I don’t feel great,” Staal said. “My times were OK. It would’ve been a little better if I was here a couple of weeks skating beforehand.”

...no big deal plenty of time for him to get into game shape before the season.

Gross also has more on Dane Byers trying to impress.

So, because he didn't have a contract he couldn't go to any rink anywhere and train?

Was he sitting on his ass eating chips while negotiations were going on?

That comment really pisses me off. I guarantee Jonathan Toews and Sidney Crosby have been working their asses off to stay in the best possible shape, because they want to win.

No way is Staal close to captain material if anyone was thinking otherwise.

@Brett

I just got pissed off for same reason you did. He doesnt even need a rink, running will keep you in shape until you get on the ice. He is a professional athlete. Your job is to be in the best shape possible. Staal does not seem to bright.

Yeah I don't get that at all...at least play some $25/hour open hockey at Chelsea Piers.

Contrast that with this quote from the NYR Twitter feed:

"Veteran Vinny Prospal after Group Two finished spring conditioning: "Just like a walk in the park"! "

Yeah! D. Maloney gives B. Goring the slap down on the Redden-to-the-minors-sitch. Circumvent this!

Ken D. still wasted.

Where's the hockey night live post!

i thought Maloney was gonna beat up Goring. IT WAS GETTING INTENSE! SO now can the Rangers have their own Talk Show

Thats why I love Vinny, top attitude, bound to rub off on younger players! Also read that Cally was the strongest skater & Excelby skated past ome journalists mouthing "help!" lol, I know Torts likes a character, wonder if he will get a spot?

I feel the same way guys...he's kind of taking a dig at the NYR organization by saying he should have had a contract sooner.

But that comment and the fact that he's out of shape prob and bringing the whole team down is 1) def not capt material 2) Does not make me comfortable that he is the #1 D-man on this team 3) reiterates my belief that he is as disposable as Redden, Rozy.

He's not that good and he's got a bad attitude. F-him

You'll enjoy it, they did a good job, as always. It got a little testy, and Daneyko is so punchy it seemed like he was a little drunk
