Goalies Rule First Scrimmage

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports that Chad Johnson and Jordan Parise combined for a 2-0 shutout over a Red squad that included Marian Gaborik and Alex Frolov this morning.

After Frolov scored a hat trick in yesterday’s scrimmage with prospect Derek Stepan centering the line, he and Gaborik were held off the board as Erik Christensen skating in between them.

Vinny Prospal and Tomas Kundratek each scored early in the first of two periods against Marty Biron.

...the biggest news to me in the morning scrimmage was the lack of offense from Gabby and Afro with Christensen a day after clicking with Stepan in the middle.

Speaking
of Stepan if you didn't love him before, check out this report from Gross regarding the young center...

A good snapshot of why Stepan projects as a solid NHL and potential team leader: At the end of the scrimmage, Blue’s Ryan Callahan lifted his arms in celebration. Unfortunately, it was right by Stepan, who shoved the established NHL right wing out of the way in frustration.

...he should be on the team just for that. The kid is a winner. Period.

...above pic is from @thenyrangers of the Blueshirts warming up before this morning's scrimmage.

Kevin,

I dont see the big news about Christensen not connecting with the top line. They guy is a scrape. He was on a few teams before ours and never established himself as anything. I just read an interview with Gaborik saying good things about Stepan but then he said that he clicked well with Prospal last year. You always preach how good Christensen was with Gaborik but I never saw it. I was always angry when they took Prospal away from Gaborik.

king, I always thought they had good chemistry, but I'd much rather see Stepan in between the two of them than Christensen.
