Prospal Skates; Christensen Centers Gabby & AFro

Andrew Gross at Rangers Rants reports that Steve Eminger, Vinny Prospal (knee) and D Michal Rozsival (groin) all participated in this morning’s practice.

...for some reason I see Prospal missing a lot of games this year. His age along with the knee surgery may be a problem for him.

Gross also reports that Erik Christensen was back centering Marian Gaborik and Alex Frolov. Here are the lines from practice today...

Frolov-Christensen-Gaborik
Kennedy-Anisimov-Callahan
Avery-Stepan-Fedotenko
Boogaard-White-Prust
Dubinsky-Prospal-Boyle

...to be honest I'm not a big fan of any of these lines. Except for maybe the top line.

I like that second line pairing, as long as it's our third line

What about these?

Frolov - Prospal - Gaborik
Dubinsky - Stepan - Callahan
Avery - Anisimov - Prust
Fedo - Christensen - Kennedy
Boogard - White - Boyle

I'm fine with these lines, because its pre-season. I still want a Boogaard-Boyle-Prust 4th line, it is intimidating, and tough. Boyle and Prust both have some offensive upside, and if Boyle takes another step forward they could combine for anywhere from 20-27 goals, but that might be a stretch.

My ideal opening night lineup (with Grachev in the minors):

Frolov-Stepan-Gaborik
Prospal-Anisimov-Callahan
Avery-Christensen-Kennedy
Boogaard-Boyle-Prust

Staal-Girardi
Michael Del Zotto-Rozsival
McDonagh-Gilroy

Eminger,White, Drury (IR)

Its less than ideal, but it will have to do.

I like Evans Ideas, but we all keep coming back to a Mcdonagh Gilroy pairing, which makes me nervous, but I also can't think of a better deal. I guess with Eminger as a 7th I would feel a bit better. I also get concerned about having all of our size on our 4th line, beyond that there is alot of small on the other lines. Also you forgot about Dubinsky, I would swap him for Kennedy. He's good & young but we don't need another small winger, especially with MZA in the pipe.

Chef right about being nervous of the McDonagh-Gilroy pairing. It might not be surprising to see Staal-Girardi split up and mixed in with the other two.

maybe staal MDZ, Girardi Gilroy, Rozival Mcdonagh to spread it out?

Yeah, that works. I think any combination that doesnt have McD and Gilroy together. I would say...

Stall-MDZ
Rozi-Gilroy
Girardi-McD

Only to keep the top two lines intact for the PP.

I like the Staal MDZ tandem. Nothing wrong with putting your two top D together. See: Seabrook-Keith

decent lines Evan, but I don't think I'd go for a lineup where Kennedy is playing and Dubinsky isn't

I think I'd like to see Staal & MDZ together as well. I think it could be a big growth move for Staal to be "the responsible one." Let's face it, he's not a rookie anymore & with his new contract this should be the year he steps into more of a leadership role among the D corps. Plus they really could compliment each other.
