Sauer to Phoenix?

Steve Zipay at Blue Notes reports two people have mentioned to him that Mike Sauer may get traded to Phoenix for 22-year-old RW Viktor Tikhonov (8g, 8a in 64 games last year).

...looks like Sauer's great game tonight may have been a tryout for another team rather than the Rangers.

...Rangers must think Sauer will be claimed on waivers if sent down to Hartford and are trying to get something for him.

Zipay also says Columbus scouts have been watching the Rangers and C Stephen Weiss may be available in Florida.

The way this kid has been playing, they'd be REALLY REALLY dumb to lose him.

sauer is ready to be an NHL defenseman now, people forget that he was a pretty solid prospect for us before he got injured, D-men take longer to develop and it looks like hes figured it out and on top of that he has hockey in his blood and hes an american, do we really need soft europeans in our lineup?

I dont think it would be a totally stupid move. From what I hear, tikhonov is a solid prospect, if not worth more than Sauer, and i think a trade for Weiss wouldnt be bad either depending on who goes the other way. CBJ also has good prospects. We all know that Slats can swing a trade( if its the only thing he does) and dont forget that we still have defensive depth behind him (McIlrath?). But it is true that we are stacked with forwards for a while, so maybe it wouldnt be the best move. We will see.
