Lundqvist Guarantees Playoffs (Updated)

Update: 10:17 a.m.:
Here is a piece over at NHL.com on Lundqvist's Q&A at the NHL store yesterday.

Original Post:
Justin Terranova at the New York Post reports that while on the Boomer and Carton Radio Show yesterday Henrik Lundqvist was asked if the Rangers would be back in the playoffs after coming up one point short last season...

“Absolutely. We will (be in the playoffs). I promise, we will bounce back,” Lundqvist said in an interview on WFAN.

...how can you not love this guy? Now let's hope he can back this up.

Not that I don't want the Rangers to make the playoffs this year (I do!), but just to play devil's advocate, he didn't specifically say they'd be back this year... Clearly they'll be back eventually, with the likes of Stepan, Kreider, et al. moving up in coming years, but HL - whether intentionally or not - covered his ass by not claiming they'd be back there THIS season. That said, I hope they do follow through this year!

Whenever the next captain is named, I really think the Rangers should take a page out of the Canucks book and sew a C on Lundquist. While Drury is an admirable guy with a penchant for winning (overpaid though he is), and Callahan is all heart and soul, and Gabby is the most skilled, it's Lundquist who represents everything the Rangers want to be: exceptionally talented, exceptionally hardworking, exceptionally tough, and a perfect media presence. He is truly the perfect face for this franchise moving forward--on and off the ice. Absoluelty love this guy.

James, I disagree. Although Lundqvist is the leader of this team the "C" could cause issues. Luongo hasn't been the same since the Canucks gave it to him. They just took it away early this week. Henrik does not need the added pressure. Also, a player doesn't need the role of a captain to be a team leader.
