The Hockey News Still Has Rangers at #13 in EC

Adam Proteau at The Hockey News takes his turn at ranking the Eastern Conference teams and puts the Rangers at #13...

13. NEW YORK RANGERS
Ah, the Rangers – a franchise I’m regularly accused of loathing. It isn’t true, but that doesn’t mean I can convince myself a team that brought in notorious non-difference-makers Alexander Frolov and Derek Boogaard will somehow have its fortunes boosted by them. Martin Biron is an upgrade behind Henrik Lundqvist; what isn’t clear at all is whether a team that was softer than melted pudding last year has suddenly grown a heart.

...he can't say that about our team. Only we can say that about our team. A little Animal House for you guys.

...is this Proteau guy serious? How can a 30-goal scorer and arguably the toughest guy in the NHL be notorious non-difference-makers? It just baffles me that this guy is employed by The Hockey News.

Earlier this offseason, The Hockey News' official predictions also had the Rangers at #13.

Just don't understand how all these predictions have us in the basement of the eastern conference when the roster got better from last season.

I mean come on, the Canes, Leafs, and Thrashers ahead of the Rangers, and the Flyers coming in at #4. Who is this guy?

Hope these predictions light a fire under the team's arses!

Pretty funny though: "Softer than melted pudding"

Well if you refer to team toughness and I believe that is where he is going with this statement, than yeah we didn't get any tougher. I think that people misconstrue that meaning. Toughness refers to the competitive nature of its players and their willingness to battle in the corners and in front of the net for those scoring opportunities. And on D to be tough in front of our own net as far as battling opposing players for position and just making it uncomfortable to play there. We are soft in D and down the middle. We are average on the boards. We did not address team toughness in those regards.

Bryan B. - "...the Flyers coming in at 4"

Is that a serious comment? You think the Rangers are a better team than the Flyers? Ok.

Secondly, your team DOES suck, they WILL finish 13th, and RANGERS SUCK. Funny to watch all you guys get worked up and call for the firing of one of the most respected hockey analysts out there.

Its funny to see that the flygirls think that because they were a Cinderella team (living up to the flygirls moniker)that all of a sudden they are all that. You lose one of your best PO players in Gagne and hoping that either vanR or Giroux can step up during the season and make up some scoring is funny. Adding TBL defensive player Meszaros to the mix is an upgrade especially coming from one of the worst defensive teams last year is hard to fanthom. Don't see the all the hype from an 8th place finish last year. Good luck with the fifth or sixth goalie in the last three years. LMAO

To Mr. Not-Enough-Guts-To-Leave-A-Name,

Firstly, Brian B. did not by any means suggest the Rangers were a better team than the Flyers. He only stated that putting the Flyers at #4 is akin to putting the Panthers at #8.

Secondly, grow some balls and stop posting flames on a blog to make yourself feel powerful. Whatever your insecurities, none of us here at the NYRBlog have any interest in what you have to say. Either leave a name and speak in a logical and reasonable manner, or stop posting.

Lastly, the Rangers may not be a shoe-in for the playoffs, but the simple addition of Biron could be enough to make the difference. Imagine last year for a moment. If Lundqvist had had a few more games of rest last season he may have pulled out a few more wins for our ailing offense and that would have put us at #8 or higher. Frolov will add more goals and Boogard will hopefully scare off a few would-be bullies. Yes, I'm looking at you Flyers.

I'm not a Flyers fan. I'm an Islanders fan, I just get pissed off when Rags fans make ignorant, embarrassing comments.

Cam Fowler.

You should have just stuck with the misconception that you were a Flyers fan. At least they've won something in the past decade... you know, like a playoff series. You're absolutely pathetic, kid. I'm glad your spare time is spent on our blogs. Shows your penis envy for our organization.
Question: When the Islanders move to Kansas City, will you still be an Islanders fan, or will you finally get your head out of your ass and be a Rangers fan?... actually, scratch that. We don't want you.

I cant really argue with THN's assesment. Are best new scoring option is hoping that Frolov gets his touch back. We need alot of goals, and more importantly, we need BIG goals, and outside of Gabby - who every team will be able to key on again, I don't know where we look to get them.

On D, the contract will Girardi got, and the one Staal will get, won't help push them towards giving us more, rather I see both of those players hitting a plateu. We need a core defenseman and big scorer to put all our homegrown role player around.

Boogard is not a difference maker. He'll play 4 minutes a game under Torts. That's why his contract is so absurd.

hey mr wendys is here. at least he posted before the lunch crowd arrived and he had to utilize his talents.

no playoff series wins since 1993. gotta love it.

Go lurk around on your own team's blogs. I didn't say the Rangers were better, but the Flyer's still don't deserve #4.

Lemme guess, next you're going to tell me the Islanders are #5.

The Islanders aren't moving to Kansas City. It's well known that it was a publicity stunt by Charles Wang to get Kate "Jackass" Murray to get a deal done for the Lighthouse Project. I don't expect moronic, illiterate Ranger fans to know that though. But if they did move to KC, I would still be a fan, bc that's what a true fan would do. I would never root for a white trash, wannabe Italian, scumbag, 4 cups in 80 years organization like the NYR.

Kevin, I think it's time to delete these flames. They are obviously interfering with the more intelligent conversation.

Islander's Guy, I never said you were a Flyer's fan. That's two times you misunderstood simple English. Learn to read.

BuckarooClub, you still need to consider that we have returning rookies. They should produce more this year for sure. Hopefully the load will be spread out a bit more. If teams can zero in on Gaborik we will just have to rely on our several potential 15-20 goal scorers showing their faces this year. Of course the future shows more for most of these faces, but I think we can expect that much from quite a few this year.

Not enough guts to leave a name. Yeah, it takes a lot of guts to leave a name. I could write any false name I wanted on this blog, and that would make me gutsier? Okay. Here I go.

i agree that the trolls posts should be deleted. it obviously has a very unhappy life and the highlight of its day is coming here and stirring up trouble
