Sather Didn't Make MZA Any Promises

In a recent interview on a Swedish website Mats Zuccarello-Aasen talks about why he chose New York...

"I got a professional impression of the club and although they have not given me any promises, so it seems that they are prepared to go for me. Deras general manager Glen Sather sade att de behöver någon som kan förse Marian Gaborik med puckar, säger han och fortsätter: Their general manager Glen Sather said they need someone who can provide the Marian Gaborik with pucks."

MZA also says Markus Naslund and Niklas Sundstrom had a major impact on his decision.

Earlier this offseason a Detroit Red Wings scout said the Rangers promised MZA a spot on a line with Gaborik.

...with the Frolov signing and trade for White (if healthy) I don't see a spot for MZA unless they use him as a 13th forward.

...i've been down on MZA all off-season but I really thought he'd be a lock for the opening night roster.

...h/t to Scotty Hockey.

I'm telling you he's going to be so much fun to watch him when you're at the Garden. I hope he's on the squad.

im surpised you think white will be on the roster, i figured it would be a salary dump

If he's healthy and has a good camp I think he makes the team.

I truly believe the Rangers are looking for him to be in the opening night lineup. Just my opinion.

still trying to figure out why they insist that White will be on the squad come openning night when it is obvious that he is considered a salary dump. After shoulder surgery and the need to regain the strength(6 months), two knee injuries last year, age and salary. Not to mention that the welcome phone call did not come from Slats or Torts should say something. With only 400K+ in available cap space, the need to waive White to help clear cap for Staal seems like the route to be taken.JMO

I don't think acquiring White was solely a cap saving move. It could be, but its not the only reason for the trade IMO. Getting Brashear off the books was priority. If they feel white can contribute, he'll be in NY.

Unless MZA is in top 6 then he should be i n Hartford from what I've read about him. Hopefully he's worthy of a spot b/c NY needs forwards that can score!

Amazing how excited u rags fans get over MZA or MAZ or whoever he is. Grow up. He hasn't proved anything yet.

Amazing how you have to worry about us Ranger fans and troll on our board. Trust me, I'll never worry about your team, whover they are.

It might be a little premature to say who is going to make the club, there is no room for MZA, White will be sent down... EVERYONE should be fighting for a roster spot. If White outplays Christiensen, Christiensen will be sent down or cut. Maybe they both do really bad and Anisimov plays first line center and MZA and Grachev join the club as wings. WE WONT KNOW TILL CAMP. I think they want people to fight for spots and to see who can do what. They have not promised anyone anything. We can be hopeful of people making the club, but all that depends on how they perform. Sather got White to dump Brashear but it also gives us options depending on what he does. To premature to talk about any of this, there is nothing set in stone, remember that.

Compared to the Isles, the Rags really don't have good prospects. Sorry, but our future is much brighter than yours. You have Stepan and Kreider and that's really all. Grachev has some potential. But u guys really hav nothing to look forward to.

i think the reason naslund and sundstrom we all gung ho with mza about going to ny is that they thought what nyc needed was a flashy young player and that a flashy young guy like mza needs a big profile place like new york. i really hope this guy makes it, hes really fun to watch.

oh yea and the islanders "prospects" are a bunch of players who will be dealt away and be better on other teams. long island should never have a team.

why do you guys even bother responding to them... waste of time... ignore them COMPLETELY... trust me, don't validate their stupidity with an answer.

LTP,
Grow up and lose the bigoted remarks.

The Islanders don't have any prospects? Okay. Let's take an in-depth look.

Travis Hamonic- scouts say he might be the next Weber

Matt Martin- scouts say he is the next Lucic

Kirill Petrov- a 6'4 goal scoring Russian, the steal of the '08 draft

Calvin de Haan- draws comparisons to Kaberle

Mikko Koskinen- 6'5, draws comparisons to Riinne, the best goalie in last years draft

Kevin Poulin- led the QMJHL in shutouts and wins last year

Nino Niedereitter- a 6'2 goal scorer, draws comparisons to Eric Cole

Brock Nelson- a 6'3 centerman, going to UND next year

Kirill Kabanov- 6'3, labeled as "The Next Ovechkin", assuming he gets his attitude in check

Every hockey analyst would agree the islanders have some of the best prospects in the league, BETTER THAN YOURS, THATS FOR SURE. The reason why you dirtbags get so defensive is because you know our future is better than yours. We are literally ranked 10 spots higher than you in The Hockey News Future Watch this year. You should read up on your facts b4 u say we have no prospects. It's very uneducated of you to say that.

Homophobic, derrogatory remarks are so typical of Rangers fans. Why can't you dirtbags just be classy? Say what you want about Long Islanders, yeah some of us are white trash, but we don't have the mouths you guys have. And how do you say that Long Island doesn't deserve a team? Do you honestly believe your team would still exist if it weren't for that fluke cup in 1994? 3 cups in an era when our grandparents weren't born yet and there were only 9 teams in the league wouldn't cut it. And please don't insult my intelligence by saying Rangers fans always beat up Islanders fans. Rangers fans get drunk, assault teenagers, direct rude remarks towards women, and get dragged out of the Mausoleum by security.

room for mza by putting sean where he belongs on 4th line. problem solved

wait seriously why are there islander fans on this blog?

Lol, u didn't even have the balls to respond to what I said. Because YOU KNOW I AM RIGHT.

Proud Long Islander,

I've lived in both NYC and Long Island and can tell you that some fans of both teams harbor fear and hatred. Homophobic remarks aren't unique to Rangers fans any more than they're unique to Islanders fans any more than they're unique to hockey fans in general. Fortunately, though, I do feel like they are becoming a thing of the past as people become more educated, more exposed to the world, and more open.

My hats off to ya, being on the bottom for so long you should have a decent prospect list to choose from. Glad to see there are still fans in the NY area that care. That comes from my heart.

sfalcon27 said...

i notice your list of prospects has a lot of players that scouts say will be the next "someone". im just gonna put it out there that if the scouts were right about a fourth of the players they talked about, the leauge would have about 5 gretzkys this year. players are always compared to others at a young age, an they never turn out as expected. in short, I fail to see how the islanders have any depth in thier prospects. I have only heard of one of them, and that was just because he "needs to get his attitude in check". if any of those players are better than kreider, stepan, or grachev... wait. I dont have to worry. its the islanders, they wont have a good team for at least ten years!

Anonymous said...

5 of those players I listed are ranked higher than Stepan, Grachev, and Kreider. To say we have no depth is to disagree with all major hockey experts. You don't have an argument. Rangers prospects suck compared to ours. Our future is better, get over it! You can't win this argument! Exactly who would those 5 Gretzkys be? I cannot recall any scouts calling anyone the next gretzky for the past 10 years, besides Sidney Crosby, who although I hate him, is a superb player. Please check your facts b4 u embarass urself.

I think we`ll see him as a wing man for Gaborik.
If Torts doesn`t see his passing skills he`s blind and should quit.
