Lundqvist Still Suffering Some Knee Pain

HockeyExpressen.se reports that despite three months since Henrik Lundqvist's last game he is still feeling the same pain in his knee he had at the end of the season...

"I took a syringe to cortisone in the knee a month ago , so now I hope that it will work , says Rangers star goalie."

...it's seems as if Lundqvist's knee is always a topic of conversation during the offseason and then he goes out and plays 70+ games. So until he's not in the lineup I'm not going to be too concerned. Yet.

Lundqvist on what he expects out of the Rangers this season...

"I think we will lose some top teams . There will be war at the line just like last."

...but let's hope the results are a little bit different.

What's the scary part of it all, is that if Henrik and Gaborik both go down you can write off the rest of the season.
Imagine relying on the rest of the money makers to make a difference-Dru, Rozi and Redden.

What you don't think Biron can hold down the fort? ;)

I think like you do, Biron never looked good in Black and Orange or Blue and Orange. So I am not counting on talent coming forward at this stage in his career. I think that he is fine for spot duty but nothing else. Its the soft goals that get you worried on an offensively challenged team.

I've had a cortisone shot to my knee before. It reduces pain and sweeping for about 6 months which means Hank will have only four months playing time pain free. Maybe he shoulda scoped it or something.

rick redden will likely be in ahl. and maybe if the rangers did better at drafting from say the mid 90's to 2007 they would not be in the bad shape they're in.

LI Joe: I am on the other side of the fence when it comes to Redden. I just don't see the owner dishing out 6M to a player in the AHL. His team is the Knicks not the Rangers. He could care less about hockey-if he cared then Slats would be out of a job. There is no motivation to develop a championship team, he is being fed by the NY market. Besides it would be hard to formulate a roster considering that Redden would each and every year be part of the cap hit until you are able to send him down at the start of the season. You can only be 10% above the ceiling and still need room to sign your RFA's if they hold out, like Staal is doing. Reddens cap hit and contract also is affecting Staals singing.

rick other than the 10% you were wrong on everything else. the cap will not allow the rangers to keep redden in the nhl. he will be in ahl next 2 yrs then bought out when cba expires. again thre cap does not allow above a certain number and redden puts us way over the top especially with signings this summer - boogaard, frolov, etc

staal is not being impacted by redden especially with the 10% summer cushion. there are plenty of rfa's league wide who have not signed yet its a game of cat and mouse. the rangers would be crazy to just give him a blank check

Rick - If Dolan cared about the Knicks, why did he hire and then try to REHIRE Isiah? I don't think we can gauge Dolan's level of caring by whom he allows to run the teams. I think it would be foolish to try and understand anything that man does.

LI Joe- I beg to differ. Redden each and every year becomes part of the cap hit because he has a one way contract. He cannot be sent down until the beginning of the season each and every year. Like I said we are only allowed to be 10% above the cap during the off season. If Reddens contract were to be assigned to the minors (basically it is close to Reddens cap hit at 6M) we would be able to sign a player with a 6M production quotient. However, you are then left with another club offering Staal or any RFA a contract you cannot match because you are already at the 10% overage-therefore you lose Staal or the RFA.

So basically by default Reddens cap hit has everything to do with how Staals contract is addressed. Besides the fact that Staal has no arbitration rights this time around, he is stuck with the contract that Slats proposes. I just don't believe that Redden goes anywhere and if he does it will be at a 1/2 price scenario where a club will pick him up on re-entry waivers. Dolan won't agree to spend 6M in the AHL but will probably sign off on a deal that pays 1/2 salary.

rick - sorry but i disagree completely with everything you wrote in last 2 posts. except the 10% summer cap excess allowable which comes close to covering reddens contract. it would be the stupidist thing he ever did to allow reddens contract to impact cap - at 100% or 50%. no no no. ahl redden and keep him there. the only worse thing would be a buyout which goes over 8 yrs instead of 4 yrs.

dolan and all will sign off on ahl for redden for next 2 yrs then he gets bought out with no cap hit when cba goes up for renewal.

yes redden would count during summer but the 10% summer excess covers for that. staal just like about 12 other rfas league wide has not signed. its not just him its league wide. if he signed for 4 mm right now he is covered by the 10% excess even with redden on the summer books

so sorry but i disagree in a big way with your last 2 comments

rfas attached probably not all inclusive

LI Joe: Maybe I wasn't clear in my words? But Redden's contract is a one way contract so that means that each and every year - at seasons end his cap hit becomes part of the NYR cap hit. You automatically have that 6+M cap hit all over again until you are able to waive it at seasons beginning. Having said that: You are hard pressed to sign a 6M replacement for Reddens cap hit unless you have that amt coming off the books the following year. Why - because 1) that puts you at the 10% overage 2) you are unable to protect any players that are RFA's because you are at the 10% overage and cannot match the new offer sheet from another team. How is this a doable scenario? Its a logistical nightmare.

LI Joe said...

rick i read the words exactly as you wrote them i just totally disagree with your premise. i am well aware that redden will count each summer but that is covered by the 10% allowable summer overage. other rfas etc will be covered by expiring contracts. this year frolov, white, eminger and prospals contracts expire more than enough for any increases to rfas. and one rfa will probably be allowed to walk in gilroy.

redden will only have 2 yrs left with the last 2 yrs after that bought out when cba expires and gets renewed under new terms, he in the ahl will have very minimal effect on the rangers. much less than allowing the 1/2 cap hit or buying him mout before the cba expires.

Rick said...

So in other words- you have to remain below your RFA.s next signing in order to stay below the 10% cap. Because once you sigh your RFA's that just pucshes you closer to your cap limit. Once you are there you still have to complete a roster that is always at 6M above the cap-but if an RFA holds out -you are left with this delemma of not being able to complete your roster until you are safe in the signing of your RFA's -who by the way will try to use this scenario as leverage.

rick - art this point i have no idea what you're getting at. to even suggest letting a real cap huit of 1/2 his salary for redden toa void a summer problem is ludicrous. i haven't seen staal getting an offer sheet because of redden.

redden has 1 summer left since the 2nd he'lll be bought out when cba expires. i really don't see much effect for him and he's definitely hartford bound with zero cap hit. the summer problem i already addressed above

Thats OK LIJoe. No sense beating our heads aroun something neither of us can control-like the next cba?
