What If Redden Plays Well?

Larry Brooks at the New York Post wonders what the Rangers will do if Wade Redden has a strong camp while other defensemen struggle...

"And what if Redden, who knows his NHL career is on the line here, who knows that if he is waived through the league in September he will never get back, what if Redden plays assertive, sharp hockey beginning with the first scrimmage and maintains his level? What if Redden outplays just about every defenseman in camp?"

...for most of the summer I said that the Rangers were going to give Redden one more chance and expected him on the opening night roster. But with all the moves they've made, plus still not re-signing Staal, I can't see how the Rangers can afford financially to keep no matter how well he plays in camp. Unless Sather has one more trade trick up his sleeve.

Brooks also expects Todd White to have a strong camp and make his way onto the team. However, Brooks says White inclusion on the roster may come at the expense of Sean Avery's playing time and a roster spot for MZA.

...you have to wonder how on a roster full of third and fourth line players, the Rangers may not be able to find substantial playing time for a proven agitator who is a fan favorite or a roster spot for the Swedish Elite League's MVP.

Rangers could afford to keep Redden on the roster with Staal's contract if they demoted White and Gilroy. I could definitely see that happening.

Redden won't play well. It's as simple as that.

Honestly I'm a big Avery fan, but who really knows if his playing time will be contingent on MZA's performance, etc.

Honestly I'd like the two to have it out for that roster spot if it comes to it.

if wade redden plays like bobby orr theres still no way you can take him with the current roster and salary cap issues, not only do you keep his awful salary but you screw younger guys out of spots and if i recall correctly Sather stated "youth will serve"

What if Redden plays well enough to stay on the roster. LMAO.
Thats better than the whole "Who's on first" routine. And that always makes you laugh.

Wonder if Redden reads any blogs or articles about what people think about him...nah...might be a little too depressing maybe...

I think Redden should definitely stay in New York. He is a first-line defenseman.

On Long Island.

Heck, he's better than Potvin ever was.
