Rangers to Share ECHL Affiliate With Flyers

From Andrew Gross...

#NYRangers and #Flyers to share #ECHL affiliation with Neil Smith's Greenville Road Warriors.less than a minute ago via web

...i find this very odd. How can either team feel good that their own ECHL affiliate will be helping a rival's prospects get better? I just don't get this.

...assuming this has to do with cost savings unless someone has another explanation.

Isles and Flyers shared the Trenton Titans for several years without much fanfare or contention. Goalie prospects tend to cause the most pain in dual affilations as each parent club will usually supply a goalie that they expect to see a lot of playing time. When one goalie is clearly better, things get a touchy if the coach leans toward winning over player development. very few true NHL prospects play at the ECHL level anyway and if they do its not for long.

Most ECHL teams have multiple affiliations. It usually is fine for the skaters but, like Koz said, goalies get screwed because they are forced to share time if the parent clubs both feed down netminders. I think we will be ok because Philly sucks when it comes to goaltending. Zaba or Talbot should be able to get most of the starts there ...

Cost savings and yet we are supposed to send Redden down. Ouch

echl is a league to give hope to players who will never make it. at best they will be 4th liners who either fill vacant spots in the ahl or provide slight competition in camps.
