3 out of 4 Points Ain't Bad

Yesterday the New York Rangers (28-24-7) were defeated by the Washington Capitals (26-25-5) by a score of 3-2 in OT. Mike Green scored a power-play goal 23 seconds into overtime and Alex Ovechkin had a goal and two assists for the Capitals to make Olaf Kolzig a winner in his 700th career game. Chris Drury and Sean Avery scored and Steve Valiquette started on a second straight day for the first time in his career, and stopped 21 shots. For a full recap go to Yahoo! Sports.

...since I missed the Flyers game, I'll just give a weekend recap.

...great job by Valiquette this weekend. He really stepped up with a great game on Saturday and put us in a position to win on Sunday. Hopefully, this week off will give Lundqvist time to get himself right for the playoff run. If Lundqvist faulters next weekend against Buffalo and San Jose, Renney's going to have a tough decision on his hands.

...loved the intesity in Saturday's game. The brawl in the second period was old time hockey at its best. Orr is a beast. Although he needs to start giving lessons to Tyutin and Dubinski. Speaking of Dubinski, eventhough he lost his fight against Richards, it was great to see him go after Richards when he almost killed Drury in the neutral zone.

...I think yesterday was the final straw for Hollweg. I know he brings energy, but this guy is too much of a liability to be on the ice. Every point is crucial and that penalty at the end of regulation was a killer. I wouldn't mind seeing Moore or Byers called up to take his place until Hossa is ready to return.

...and why was Hollweg on the ice anyway. Renney's personnel decisions at the end of games has been horrible. I think we all remember Nylander and Jagr on the ice at the end of Game 5 against Buffalo last year that led to Drury's goal with 7 seconds left. Also this year Renney blew a Lundqvist shutout by having Jagr on the ice at the end of the game. When will this guy learn?

...after scoring two goals on the power play on Saturday, the Rangers reverted right back to their old ways on Sunday, going 0-6. Obviously, when you lose in OT, not scoring on the power play really hurts.

...lots of scoreboard watching this week. I'll keep an update on all the games effecting the Rangers throughout the week,

Right on! I couldn't agree with you more about Hollweg and Renney. Game 5 game to mind yesterday, even before he took that bad penalty. Tie game under a minute Washington puts out there best player and Renney counters with our worst players.

I agree Hollweg has become a liability with stupid penalties. However the 4 th line has been out all season against the yop lines and have been pretty successful. Once Hossa is back he should take Hollwegs spot, he doesnt bring that much evergy anyway and is awful on offense.

Putting Hollwegs stupid penalty aside, 0-6 on the powerplay is all that you have to say. Not to mention the missed chances by Avery and DRury on the dorrstep. This offense never scores and backs-up the strong play in net, yet our goalies are expected to steal games every night. Somethings not right...
