Hollweg Suspended, Out for Tomorrow

According to Sam Weinman at the Rangers Report, Ryan Hollweg has been suspended one game for his hit from behind on Montreal's Sergei Kostitsyn during yesterday's game and will sit out tomorrow's game against the Los Angeles Kings. Weinman says this could leave the Rangers shorthanded tomorrow...

"...This potentially leaves the Rangers shorthanded tomorrow against the Kings since Brendan Shanahan, Marcel Hossa, and Marek Malik are all still day-to-day. Should none of those players be ready to play tomorrow, the Rangers would summon a body from Hartford.

It can be a defenseman or a forward since Jason Strudwick can be used at either position as well."

...I didn't see the hit, but from what I've read online it was a very selfish play by Hollweg. I know he took an elbow to the face by Kovalev, which wasn't called, but he has to learn to control himself. If he's going to do that down the stretch when every point is so crucial, he can't be on the ice. Although I don't think he should be on the ice anyway. Put Callahan on the fourth line, so that we can at least have a threat of offense on that line.

Ive got to say. If you compare this hit to the one Gomez took 2 weeks up with no penalty called, this wasnt as bad. Hollweg needs to be smarter and will probably get more than a game.
That being said, the NHL needs to seriously define what a hit from behind is and what deserves 2min, 4min and a major. There really should only be 2min and 5min and the linesman should be able to have imput if they saw it. Otherwise, the NHL will never be a ble to cleanup the dirty hits like they want and prevent major injuries.
