Brooks: Rangers Should Go after Holik

Larry Brooks at The New York Post feels that if the Rangers decide to hold on the Jaromir Jagr at the trading deadline they should think about picking up Bobby Holik...

"If the New York Rangers keep Jaromir Jagr - and, yes, here I go again, to coin a phrase - Sather needs to find out what it will take to get Bobby Holik out of Atlanta as a rental...Fact is, Holik is the perfect center for Jagr at this stage of No. 68's career.

Holik doesn't need the puck. He has never pretended to be creative. He will go to the front, and he will clear out space for Jagr. He will pound on the Mike Komisareks of the world if they assault the team captain. He will work with Jagr the way he did when the two men were linemates for 20 games at the end of 2003-04.

He might be an answer on the power play. And it the Rangers get Holik - and only if it's for the right price - they will be able to move Chris Drury to the wing."

...Umm...Larry...not sure if you've seen the last two games, but we have this guy on our team named Brandon Dubinsky, who has been doing a great job centering Jagr. And with the way Drury's been playing, I don't want to move him any where.

...the one good point Brooks makes about Holik is that he would pound on checking forwards pestering Jagr. But to me, that's not worth bringing him in for. Plus who are you going to sit when Holik comes aboard? Callahan? Dawes? I don't think so.

I dont know what Brooks is thinking. Holik is not a top line center, he is a third or fourth line center at the end of his career.
Brooks usually is very well informed and in touch with what is going on with the Rangers. This idea is just plain awful..
WIth the Rangers starting to step up their play for a playoff run, Brooks needs to step it up as well.
