White, Sauer Back in; Gaborik Skating

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports that it appears Derek Boogaard will be a healthy scratch tonight for the Rangers with Todd White rejoining the lineup and defenseman Mike Sauer will be back in, likely with Steve Eminger as the scratch.

However, the biggest bit of news is that Marian Gaborik spent 20-30 minutes skating on his own for the first time since separating his left shoulder on Oct. 15. Gaborik emphasized there is still no timetable for his return, or even for him to resume skating with the team.

“My stickhandling was pretty good, I tried to shoot a couple of times,” said Gaborik, who skated in a sweatsuit, not with any equipment. “Obviously, it’s not there yet but I like where it’s going.”

...i'm a big fan of tonight's lineup with Boogaard out and Sauer back in. Should be a nice test against the Blackhawks.

...great to hear Gaborik back on the ice.

Thank god boogie is sitting this one out. He'd be such a road cone out there against the nimble Hawks.

Kevin you have not been a fan of Eminger since the season began and from watching on television I agreed with you 100%, but after attending the Nashville and Carolina games and watching the team live I got a much different impression of Eminger. He always takes the body, finishes his checks and is always sticking up for guys after the play. He steps up on the blue line and gives his body up for the play. His skating, puck handling and shot all needs work but I think he plays with a lot of grit. Frolov thus far has been horendous. He plays weak, hes weak on the puck, weak in the corner, he does not use his body and he looks dazed and confused out there. TV doesnt allow you to see what goes on away from the play. I think Forlov has been horrible, hangs plays soft and seems to have no fire under him at all. Rosi, Boyle, Callahan, Dubi and Anisimov are I think playing great hockey right now, and I can say and really believe Rosival is one of the best guys out there right now playing a very solid game.

Unless we're playing the Flyers I just don't see the need for Boogard. I have a feeling that his will be remembered (although probably not the actual) contract given out to a pure fighter. The NHL has changed & opponents don't fear him because they don't have to fight him. Toughness in the new NHL is better exemplified by the likes of Prust, Avery & Pronger & hopefully Mcilrath.

brian-
i think the reason eminger is so unliked is because sauer is so much better at doing what eminger does. if gilroy gets benched, a sauer-eminger line could be very decent with his newfound physicality. I dont think too many people would shed tears if eminger was in instead of gilroy (even though valentenko would be better than either from what he showed in preaseason).

@chef dave: got to agree with you in regards to Boogy. If you can't play a normal shift and throw your weight around, effectively you become a one trick pony. Even Parros plays a decent game and puts forth the effort.

When has boodgaard not thrown his body around?? Rather watch him then a 20 year old who will play 4 min and not have a hit or shot..... Give the guy a break, he plays hard when he is in.....
