Rangers Trade Byers

I briefly touched on this last night, but yesterday the Rangers dealt away Dane Byers to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Here's part of the Rangers official announcement...

"New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired forward Chad Kolarik from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Dane Byers. Kolarik, 24, has registered four goals and six assists for 10 points, along with 18 penalty minutes in 13 games with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) this season. He ranks third on Springfield in scoring with 10 points, is tied for second in assists and ranks fourth in goals. He also leads the team and ranks 14th in the AHL with 46 shots on goal, and is tied for the team lead and ninth in the league with three power play goals."

...was really hoping Byers would get a shot with the big club as the fourth line center this year, but Boyle obviously beat him out and we all know how well that's working out for the Rangers. But still, I liked his toughness and I hope for the best for Byers.

This makes me happy...the 2007-2008 UofM hockey team was awesome to watch (at least when I was sober enough to actually remember the games and not just scream obscenities at the opposition) and now we have Carl Hagelin and Kolarik in the Rangers system. All we need now is Kevin Porter and Max Pacioretty

shame that he had to go, he really is an NHL player stuffed in the minors. But I think the organization realized that he was headed out after this year and wanted to get something for their money now. But I've heard good thins about Kolarik, who might be able to help the team in other ways.

Wasn't Byers the captain of the pack? Who takes his place?

byers was captain. he was also avail to all other teams when rangers sent him down in training camp. the fact nobody claimed him speaks volumes.

i guess the new guy will be counted on to set up either mza or grachev
