Rangers Ranked #9 Organization

Hockey's Future releases their top 10 NHL organizational rankings with the Rangers landing at #9...

9. New York Rangers

Strengths: The Rangers are absolutely loaded up front, particularly at center. Derek Stepan and Evgeny Grachev headline the center position, while Ethan Werek, Roman Horak, Ryan Bourque, and Andrew Yogan give New York spectacular depth down the middle. The wingers are also very strong with the likes of Chris Kreider, Mats Zuccarello-Aasen, Carl Hagelin, and Christian Thomas all ranking among the club’s top 10 prospects. Weaknesses: The Rangers have question marks in net with free agent signing Chad Johnson and fifth round pick Scott Stajcer leading the way. Johnson has played well in the AHL and has also appeared in five NHL games but he and the other goaltending prospects do not figure to be viable future replacements for Henrik Lundqvist. Top 5 Prospects: 1. Chris Kreider, LW, 2. Evgeny Grachev, C, 3. Derek Stepan, C, 4. Mats Zuccarello-Aasen, LW, 5. Ryan McDonagh, D. Lost to Trade: Ryan Hillier, Bobby Sanguinetti, Tomas Zaborsky.

...organizational rankings are not too reliable because it's all based on potential. Sure the stockpile of prospects the Rangers have look great right now, but how are they going to play when they get a chance in the NHL.

...i've seen way too many Ranger can't miss prospects not being able to make the transition to the NHL to get overly excited about this ranking.

...however, it is nice to see.

While I agree with the statement of not getting too excited because of history. Considering that Clark and his scouts have been evaluating the recent picks both in talent and character, I look forward to seeing how well he does compared to his predecessors. From early results so far I believe he has done well. But the grade is still incomplete.

The story says that it is a drawback that none of the Rangers' prospects "figure to be viable future replacements for Henrik Lundqvist."

Um, Henrik is 28 and could play for another decade. Even if we had an absolute stud goalie prospect right now, he'd have to wait until he was 30-something to replace Henrik. I hate it when stories say stupid stuff like that.

I've been reading HF for a while now (it was more interesting when we really sucked) & they have been on about this "lack of depth in goal" for several years. I guess they just have different criteria but I'm a bit tired of reading about it. Are we supposed to burn a 1st round pick on a goalie now? Kevin is right, that can wait until 2017.

What's nice about this group is that there really isn't anyone who I'd tout as a league-wide "Top Prospect"--they're all the solid type of pick. Less upside, perhaps, but a bit more likely to work on the NHL level.

What a development, the Rangers building from within and the Devils banking and breaking the bank on an overrated player...

This just in...Parise out 3 months.
