Rangers Interested in Volchenkov?

Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun, who is borderline Eklund-like, reports that the Rangers are considered to be a potential suitor for UFA Senator defenseman Anton Volchenkov, who turned down the Senators’ five-year, $20-million offer after the Olympics.

Volchenkov had 4 goals, 10 assists in 64 games this season.

...no Bruce don't worry about a little thing called the salary cap. Unless Sather can work his trade magic there is no way the Rangers can afford Volchenkov at $4 million per.

...Volchenkov would bring some much needed toughness, but at that price not worth it.

Sadly, based on recent history, this doesn't really mean that it is not likely to happen. I'd argue that this is exactly why we fans should be worried about it. On the surface Vol seems to fill an apparent need. The fact that it is not worth the price is irrelevant to whether it is likely.

ANdy Sutton would bring 2 times the toughness at less than half the price!

if we get the premier shot blocker of the league that makes drury even more useless.

icycup - drury did score 20 + goals 1st 2 yrs here. so maybe he'll get back to that level. and team usa hardly thought he was useless.
