MSG Project is Transformation Not Renovation

Scott Cacciola at the Wall Street Journal gives us more insight into the $775 million transformation (Hank J. Ratner, the president and CEO of Madison Square Garden, says it's not a renovation) of Madison Square Garden...

Ratner says it was important to maintain the original design of the ceiling, which will be restored, but pretty much everything else will change.

"One of the more subtle changes will be among the most significant: The upper bowl will be rebuilt at a steeper angle—17 ½ degrees—which will create more of a vertical effect and improve sightlines for fans in the far reaches of the arena.

Many upper-tier seats—in the nosebleed sections, so to speak—will be five feet closer to the playing surface because the bowl will be compressed, Mr. Ratner said."

...glad to hear they're keeping the iconic ceiling. As a former season ticket holder in the old blue seats, it's nice to hear they're moving the real fans closer to the action.
