Marleau, who would have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, has agreed to a four-year deal worth $6.9 million per year, while Pavelski, a restricted free agent, has also agreed to a four-year contract, one that will pay him $4 million per year.
...doubt Rangers had any interest in either player, but one less center on the market.
...not sure where the Rangers will be looking for center, but I like Lombardi (PHX). However with Marleau getting just under $7 million and Plekanec getting $5 million, I'm afraid Lombardi might end up out of the Rangers price range.

LOL. marleau has the BEST agent in the world. those 2 contracts should have been reversed. 4 years is still too long for marleau. wow, im so impressed with his agent. im also glad hes off the market so theres no chance of him coming here to spend his "golden years" as so many aged UFAs do...
Actually I like Marleau, has for the better part always performed up to his contract and at this stage in his career deserves to receive some of the benefits ( as long as it doesn't come at the NYR's expense) of finishing out his career where he wants to. He is in the top 10% of the offensive players so he is in the elite crowd. Looking for a 1st line center-Lombardi is not the answer. 15/30 club belongs to at most a 2nd line center if not a 3rd liner. Decent speed but......looks like trading will be the answer or nothing and maintaining status quo, and lack of a PO picture for the 2nd straight yr.
this will be the worst july 1st ever
