Gordie Clark, Rangers' Director, Player Personnel, says this of Sauer's numerous injuries...
"It happens to some guys in their careers where once they finally get over those first couple of injuries, they stay healthy. He's a very positive guy who'll have himself in shape again, so you really just have to wait."
Sauer on what he brings to the table...
"I guess I'd describe myself as somebody that's steady in the back end and that you can count on shift after shift," said Sauer. "I want to always be somebody who will play against the other team's top line as more of a shut-down guy, but who can also get pucks through, make good plays, make smart passes and contribute in that respect. And, especially on the penalty kill, I want to be blocking shots and doing stuff that can help the team win."
...another young talented defenseman for Ranger fans to get excited about. I think he has a better chance of cracking the Rangers line-up than Sanguinetti because of his physical presence which the Rangers are sorely lacking on the blueline.

Sanguinetti needs to be traded, in my opinion. His value probably won't go very much higher and it seems as though the system has a lot of defensive prospects ahead of him. With many, many needs in this organization, dealing from a strength might help.
Andy, not sure if I'm ready to give up on Sangs yet. However if a team is willing to send back a young scoring forward or centerman or willing to take a bad contract (Redden, Drury, Rozsival) with him the Rangers have to listen.
Do you think he would be able to bring back enough value while also sending a contract?? Or do you view the dumping of one of those contracts enough value in itself??
But, I don't see any team in this league taking one of those defenseman with Sangs. Two defenseman, one a rookie and the other an albatross, can't see any team taking a flyer on that without another NHL piece.
Andy, yeah the Rangers would have to take back a problem contract (Souray?), but the idea would be to rid themselves of an even worse one (Redden?). Plus the Rangers may also get along with the problem contract an underachieving forward prospect.
I'm not sold on Souray, why would anyone ever take Redden, especially if they're taking on a worse defenseman with a worse contract. I just don't see Sangs as that valuable.
I'm not sold on Souray either but from the Rangers stand point he's better than Redden (contract and skill). On the Oilers end the Rangers would have to hope that Edmonton is worried he may cause an issue in the lockerroom and would be desperate enough to make that trade.
We can only hope.
