Rangers Again Linked to Volchenkov; Prospal to Canucks

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun looks at this summer's free agent market...

Anton Volchenkov, D, Ottawa: He won’t be returning. The Rangers and Sharks are both looking for shot-blocking blueliners. The Caps say forget it. Volchenkov, who made $3.2 million (all terms US) this past season, will score $4.5-$5 million per year on a new deal.

...Garrioch keeps beating the Volchenkov to Rangers drum but never seems to tell us how they're going to pay for him. Unless of course the plan is to send Redden down to Hartford in September.

Vaclav Prospal, LW, Rangers: Will help a team looking for scoring. Vancouver is a possible destination.

...wait the Rangers are looking for scoring.

Garrioch also links Olli Jokinen to his former team the Panthers.

i think garrioch just picks teams out of a hat, this guy is extremely unreliable

Agreed. He's basically a notch above Eklund. Which isn't saying much.

He might be Eklund...or then again, I might be Eklund

Remember the Malkin to the Kings "rumor" last summer?

As for Volchenkov. He's a good defensive defenseman but I don't see him in NY, the Rangers have too much money tied up in Redden and Rozsival, not to mention that Staal and Girardi are UFAs. I can't see how they could spend another $4M+ on a blue liner.

I fully expect Prospal to be back in NY
