Rangers Have Found Value in Late Round Picks

Newyorkrangers.com has a piece on how important late round picks in the draft can be to a team's future and focuses on players such as Henrik Lundqvist, Sean Avery and Dan Girardi.

“You’re talking about 17-18 year-old boys, it’s pretty hard to always correctly project what type of player they will turn out to be,” explained Gordie Clark, the Rangers’ Director, Player Personnel.

...nothing better than getting a late round steal. Hopefully Clark will be able to pull a few rabits out of his hat next weekend.

now only if we could figure out a way to draft well in the early rounds

I don't know Bryan, Rangers have been drafting pretty well early lately: Staal (1st round), MDZ (1st), Kreider (1st), Sanguinetti (1st), Stepan (2nd round), Werek (2nd), Sauer (2nd).

i would not put sanguinetti or sauer (in his case injuries) on the list of drafted well

Joe, I hear what you're saying on Sangs and Sauer but I think there's still plenty of time for them to step up, so I still consider them solid picks.

However, in two years I may have a different opinion.
