According to Sportsdaily.ru, former #NYR Darius Kasparaitis has called it a career & will become an assistant coach with SKA St. Petersburg.
...Rangers could really use a Kasparaitis-type player on defense right now. Dirty, hard hitting and in-your-face. The exact opposite of Redden.
...unfortunately, not much success for the Rangers during Kasper's time with the team and his NHL career sadly ended for him in Hartford.

Funny because i thought he retired right after Slats made him a millionaire 23 times over.
Ba dum dum ching.
yet another strange reason redden hasnt been waived..although kaspar was only paid about 3.5-4.5 a year? but still...in a salary cap era we need every dollar we can get, lets hope slats does the same to redden as he did kaspar.

kaspar was put into minors late in his contract. with redden it sends a bad message for future free agencies to send a guy during his 1st or even 2nd yr to the minors. strongly appears you didn;t even give him a chance. that perception does lessen with each passing yr so at least after 2 full seasons is a heck of a lot better than during the 1st yr.
its worth the risk to send him down if you can get a stud like kovy. otherwise merely overpaying middling talent in yrs and $ could lead to same ol same ol
