Budaj Re-Signs with Avalanche

TSN reports that goaltender Peter Budaj, who the Rangers were rumored to have interest in for their backup position, re-signed with the Avalanche for one-year.

The 27-year-old Budaj finished his fifth pro season with a 5-5-2 record, 2.64 goals-against average and one shutout in 15 games for Colorado.

...whatever, still plenty of quality backup options still available in Hedberg, Lalime and Biron. Or the Rangers could go with the cheap alternative in Chad Johnson.

would you prefer them to go the cheap way to get a better center?

Lundqvist can play more than 70 games in the season, i think that we don't need to buy a backup, CJ is a great goalie, and i think that he can do a good work on backup. Rangers need Ofense and defense, not a goalie.

No Goalies! put the money into a center. We need to be thrifty.

Live or die by Hank. CJ would be more than adequate in spelling Lundy for a series of games during the season. If we really need more than that in net for any reason (like an injury to Hank) then we shop at a later date or dive towards the lottery.

It's a tough call b/c as we saw Lundqvist was burned out at the end of the season and if Johnson can't carry the workload the Rangers could be in trouble again.

If Hank isn't at his best the Rangers aren't going anywhere.

On the other hand the Rangers are in despearte need of a top line center and saving $ on a backup would be helpful.

Should be real interesting to see which way Sather goes.
