Rangers Officially Announce Prospal Signing

Newyorkrangers.com reports Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent forward Vinny Prospal.

Here's a quote from Sather...

"Vinny is a highly-skilled player with good offensive instincts and the ability to play on the wing or at the center position,” stated Sather. “We think he will give us added flexibility and brings a veteran presence to our lineup.”

...this signing is getting a lot of praise in the media. I'm not 100% sold on Prospal, but I guess at the price I can't complain too much. Plus he's nice insurance if Dubinsky can't rediscover his rookie season magic or god forbid is traded.

The Rangers also officially announced the Mark Messier hire here.

I swear if they trade Dubinsky I will never trust anything Sather says ever again, he promises to get younger and use Dubinsky as the top line center. Then he goes and signs Prospal, I guess at 1 mil its not to bad and relatively low risk, Tortorella keeps stressing that camp is wide open and that they have to get kids into the lineup. I imagine if Lisin plays well during camp he could displace Prospal, which I hope happens

One more signing and we still don't have a reliable first line center. If Prospal plays center, where does he fit in? Drury is inked in the second line. I suppose it's a battle between anisimov and prospal for the third line center, even though I firmly believe boyle could be a great fit for the third line.

I feel like Im the only one that loves this signing. Prospal is inconsistent, but has put up 80 points before, so he's at least capable. Would anyone be upset with a 30G 30A season? I'll take that for 1 million.

Dubinsky needs to stay, and I dont think he will be traded.

Despite being -20 last year I'd love to see Prospal find some traction in NY. If he can put up Zherdev or better numbers (which could be very easy for this dude) then he's an awesome signing.
