Brooks: Bertuzzi May End Up on Rangers Training Camp Roster

In an article in the New York Post today, Larry Brooks says this about Todd Bertuzzi and the Rangers...

"No, we have not heard his name connected to New York even once this summer, but why is it that we have a sinking feeling that Todd Bertuzzi might somehow wind up on the Rangers' training-camp roster?"

Brian Costello at The Hockey News actually says that Bertuzzi is a UFA worth considering.

Brooks also reports that Brendan Shanahan doesn't have an open invitation to return to the Rangers but does have one to return to the Devils.

...what's funny is yesterday while trolling around the web I noticed that Bertuzzi hasn't been signed by anyone and wondered if the Rangers would have any interest. Not sure what's scarier that I actually thought Bertuzzi could help the Rangers or that I'm thinking like Brooks.

...Bertuzzi had 15 goals, and 29 assists in 66 games with the Flames last season.

Especially with the roster that Philly has, Bertuzzi could definitely help us. He would add a lot of grit, a good amount of scoring and another big body to counter the likes of Pronger, Carcillo, ect (and now Tollefsen too! Damnit Sather!).

To be frank, Bertuzzi is an asshole. What he did to Moore should not be forgiven. We wouldn't have to like him as a person. However, he would be an effective hockey player for us. We need players who are assholes in order to go up against the tougher teams of the league. Also, previous experiments have proven that assholes thrive here in NY, with exhibit A being Sean Avery. If he is cheap and we can find a top 9 spot for him (which we currently don't have, even without Zherdev) I think he would be a good addition.

Bertuzzi is a mediocre player - who cares if he's tough. We need skilled players- natural goal scorers not aging tough guys like Bertuzzi and Brashear.

Would be all for bringing in Bertuzzi...he has much needed size and grit, and still able to put the puck in the net..I will take him on the ice over Voros any day
