Maccarone Stars in First Scrimmage

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports that Matt Maccarone, a 25-year-old center, who came to prospects camps this summer as a tryout after playing last season for the Tulsa Oilers of the CHL, scored twice in the first period of today's scrimmage in which the Ales Kotalik lead Team 4 defeated the Chris Drury lead Team 1 by the score of 3-2. Gross says Maccarone is fighting for a spot in Hartford.

Other observations were Michael Del Zotto, paired with Daniel Girardi, scoring; Bobby Sanguinetti taking a puck to the face; and Matt Gilroy, paired with Marc Staal, continuing to show explosive skating ability and a hard shot as he rang one off the crossbar.

...nice update on our young defenseman fighting for the final two defensive spots. Tough camp so far for Sanguinetti.

Gross also reports that Justin Soryal scored the scrimmage-winner in the second period, deflecting a shot past Lundqvist from the slot.
