Yankee Stadium Winter Classic on Ice?

Steve Zipay at Blue Notes reports that Yankees president Randy Levine says the new Yankee Stadium is not in consideration for a future NHL Winter Classic.

The reason could be that, today, Yankee club executives announced the newest college football bowl game, the Yankee Bowl, which would be scheduled between Christmas and New Year's Day at the new Yankee Stadium.

The NHL needs about six days to prepare a rink and refrigeration for the Winter Classic on New Year's Day.

"We'd love to do hockey as well," Levine said. "We're not in the mix; if they're interested, they'll call us."

Zipay adds the new 'House that Ruth Built' was considered a frontrunner for the Jan. 1, 2011 game, with the Rangers as a participant.

...huh? How was Yankee Stadium the frontrunner when Levine is saying its not in consideration? Its got to have something to do with Bettman's incompetency.
