Avery to be Ready for Opening Day

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports Sean Avery, who was off crutches and walking comfortably through the Rangers' dressing room today, says he will "Definitely" play in the season opener.

Gross adds that Avery's MRI "came up clean" and tomorrow he'll go for a procedure where they inject his own blood into the tissue around the knee in an effort to speed the recovery.

...gross. This is great news about the Grate One.

Avery also had this to say about the Rangers tiring in their seven game playoff series loss to the Capitals last season...

"It was a tough situation, I think it was a long year," Avery said. "Much of it was a lot of smoke and mirrors with the team. It was not as close as people indicated."

...is Avery saying the team wasn't a close group of guys or that the series against Washington wasn't close? If anybody knows, leave a response in the comments section.

Update 1:40 p.m.:
Gross' Twitter page clears this up as it indicates Avery says the team wasn't as close as people indicated.

...interesting. Could be why a lot of players weren't re-signed in the off-season.

Not for anything but after collapsing like that, it's no surprise.
