Don't Be Caught Dead Wearing Potvin Jersey at MSG

Sean Leahy at Puck Daddy takes a team-by-team look at jerseys that a fan wouldn't be caught dead wearing in an opposing arena...

In New York Rangers: Denis Potvin
It's the chant that reaches saturation after the eighth time in a period; Denis Potvin is not a welcomed guest inside Madison Square Garden. His
hit on Rangers forward Ulf Nilsson during the 1978-79 season was the beginning of the hatred for the former Islanders defenseman. Nilsson would break his ankle on the play and miss the rest of the season. The fact that Potvin was a member of the hated Islanders made the hit even more unforgivable.

Other notable jerseys include Mark Messier jersey in Vancouver and Jaromir Jagr in Washington.

...i don't think a person wearing a Potvin jersey at MSG would last two seconds.

I respectfully disagree. In fact, I think more than half the people that yell that chant in MSG nowadays don't even know who Potvin is. A small percentage probably think Felix Potvin.

Sadly you are probably correct. With real Ranger fans being priced out, the suits sitting throughout the Garden would probably have no idea.

Although I still think the real fans sitting in the old blues would be all over the guy.

i remember the night when those low class low life icelander fans burnt the chiefs head dress & myself my 2 cousins & about 5 other guys got kicked out of the garden for coming to the chiefs aid up in sect. 402 that had to be back in 92-93. An icelander fan is about as low a form of life as exists on this planet. Flyer fans & anyone form Philadelphia comes in a distant 2nd!!
