On whether the Rangers should be buyers or sellers at Wednesday's trading deadline Rick Carpiniello at The Rangers Report said...
"If you’ve brought in a new coach and you’re going to bring in Avery, then that says to me that Sather is buying. I think that’s the absolute wrong move at this point—giving up prospects, young players or draft picks for a Keith Tkachuk or a Bill Guerin type. That will come back to haunt in the long run.
Unless you believe this team, as currently constituted, can actually challenge—can actually make a run toward the finals—then that’s just crazy and short-sighted. But I do think, with the coaching change, the Avery claim, and with Dolan’s and Sather’s track records, that they will go for it this year.
I’m on record: Bad move. Sell."
...i've got to disagree with Carp here. I think with Avery and another scorer (Tkachuk?) the Rangers have enough to make a run in the playoffs. Especially with Tortorella, who knows how to win in the playoffs, behind the bench.
...i love the way Prucha has been playing, but if a team is interested in him as compensation for a scorer the Rangers have to trade him. I feel Prucha, Parenteau (who has no future with the Rangers) and a pick would be enough to get Tkachuk.

whats to stop another team ahead of us claiming avery and then turning around and asking a draft pick or prospect for him? it would be a good idea for teams looking to sell, they could get a draft pick off of us
