Jagr & Avangard Pull Huge Upset in KHL Playoffs

Jeff J. Klein at Slap Shots reports that Jaromir Jagr and #16 seed Avangard Omsk pulled off an enormous upset beating Salavat Yulaev Ufa, the defending Russian champions and No. 1 team in the regular season, clinching their Russian K.H.L. octavofinal series, 3 games to 1.

Jagr had 2 goals and one assist in the series including a third period goal in Avangard's 4-1 victory in game four to clinch the series.

...you've got to give Avangard credit for overcoming a coaching crises, lawsuits, the death of Cherepanov and the suspension of its directorship to take out the #1 in the KHL.

...hat tip to Puck Daddy for the link.
