Kotalik, Higgins Traded to Calgary for Jokinen, Prust

TSN is now reporting the Rangers and Calgary Flames are expected to announce a trade tonight that will send Calgary center Olli Jokinen and forward Brandon Prust to the Rangers in exchange for forwards Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins.

Jokinen, who is in the final year of his contract that pays him $5.25 million, has 11 goals, 24 assists and is a +3 on the season.

Prust, also in the final year of his contract that pasy him $500,000, has 1 goal, 4 assists and 98 minutes in penalties this season.

...Jokinen who was a big time goal scorer while playing in anonymity in Florida has for the most part disappointed in Calgary. Let's hope he can find something with Gaborik (hat trick tonight by the way).

...this move also helps the Rangers clear some cap space as Jokinen and Prust come off the books at the end of the season.

...Prust will fill the role Brashear was supposed to play this season and the one Voros is currently trying to fill.

...as far as Kotalik goes, not sure what happened to him. He looked like a steal at $3 million per at the beginning of the season then it just all fell apart. Higgins, I've never seen a player with worse luck than him.

I wouldnt call this trade a blockbuster deal. I dont really know what were going to get out of Jokinen, and especially Prust. I feel bad for Higgins because hes a New York guy and he works hard , but i guess you said it best. He had very bad luck

Decent trade. Jokinen is a better player than both Higgins and Kotalik. Would have been nice to see Phaneuf in this deal but obviously Burke got to him first. Who knows what the Rangers would have had to give up for Phaneuf, but I'd have happily given Gilroy for him.

I have a feeling Sather isn't done yet. I'm guessing he picks up a d-man before the trade moratorium.

rather have jokinen than either one of those underachievers. i was unhappy with higgins coming to new york and was not surprised of his failures. they need size and most of all to shed rosival and or redden, though i dont see that happening

James, Same i wish we were going after phaneuf. I hope sather can make another move because i dont think this is going to help the playoff push too much.

sather is not done yet. he loves the "EASY" fix. lets hope the ny rangers prospects will be safe from the mad scientist

the rangers making the playoffs this year doesnt matter. they have no business being there. the future is what is important. rental players will not work. lundquist and gaborik cant do it alone. cally and dubbie have to grow up fast. and where is the defense

Yea well i think the rangers are definetly going to be in the mix for that 6,7,8th spot. Were just gunna need some more help

I love the deal. We lose nothing, get a skilled guy who can score AND a center we can plug in with Gabby, a tough guy to get Brashear out of our faces, AND some cap room when its all said and done. I am much happier with this move than what a lot of prospective moves were- such as bringing in Souray, unloading Dubinsky, etc.
